The 25 year old winger, who signed for the League Two side Scunthorpe from Wigan Athletic in 2018, was alleged to have lashed out on the 24th of June.
He was let go a few months back by the Lincolnshire outfit after cops were called after reports of a man behaving in a drunk and disorderly manner at the Doncaster based Herten Triangle retail park in South Yorkshire.
They arrived at the scene before 11pm and tried to arrest the footballer, however a scrap played out and Colclough allegedly hit an officer leaving him with injuries to his face.
He damaged one officer’s glasses in the process of the scuffle and is further charged with criminal damage.
Colclough of Doncaster, South Yorkshire, is set to appear before Doncaster Magistrates’ Court on the 24th of November.
A spokesman for South Yorkshire Police said: “Ryan Colclough has been charged with assault on an emergency service worker and criminal damage following an incident on June 24.
“At 10:50pm officers attended the Taco Bell drive through at the Herten Triangle retail park following reports of a man acting drunk and disorderly in a public place.
“During an arrest attempt, an officer was assaulted and sustained injuries to his face and damage to his glasses.”
ALTRINCHAM CLUB STATEMENT
Phil Parkinson has moved to prevent injury disrupting Altrincham’s recent progress by signing winger Ryan Colclough on a short-term deal.
The highly-rated 25-year old will be with the Robins until the New Year after being released by Scunthorpe in the wake of an incident that led to an assault charge against him.
He denies the charge, and after entering a plea of not guilty at Doncaster Magistrates this morning, the case was adjourned until March.
Eager to relaunch his career at the earliest opportunity, the Stoke-born attacker will not be short of offers at Football League level but cannot join another EFL club until the transfer window opens in January.
The hiatus presented the perfect opportunity for Alty to step in and suggest a short-term agreement that will benefit both parties.
Colclough is intent on maintaining form and fitness and keen to repay Parkinson for giving him the platform to impress potential League suitors in Robins colours over the next six weeks.
For Alty’s part, the chance to limit the impact of a lengthening injury list with a player of his calibre was too good to turn down.
Ironically enough, it was an injury to Andy Dales, who joined Alty on loan from Scunthorpe, that heightened the need for reinforcements on the flank.
Yusifu Ceesay is being eased back gradually, to guard against any recurrence of his injury, and when Dales suffered a calf problem at Boreham Wood on Saturday, interest in utilising Colclough’s renowned wing craft began to gather pace.
He has signed until early January and made his first appearance for Altrincham in a 1-0 defeat by Bromley.
Confirmation of Alty’s second change. Colclough replaces Yus on the left hand side.

Great signing for Alty, can only see it as a stopping gap to keep him match fit as he’s only signed till January. #CreweAlex https://t.co/XHDvbLmBIv

He’s a good player is Ryan Colclough and I hope he can help guide Altrincham to safety this season, it’s just a shame the player assaulted a police officer and has got a bad past. Only he can put it right.
