Alan Judge fumes as Darren Drysdale reveals what was said in bust-up

Alan Judge fumes as referee Darren Drysdale reveals what was said in that well known bust-up which saw the pair in a bizarre square off.

The official can been seen in a video which got millions of views from football fans across the world with Ipswich’s Alan Judge going head to head.

Fans called for the official to get the sack following his surprise actions however Darren Drysdale is now free to officiate again after being given a backdated ban for improper conduct.

It came in the Tractorboys’ 0-0 draw with strugglers Northampton Town on Tuesday night, leaving then-manager Paul Lambert’s side 11th in the League One table.

Speaking to an FA Commission, Drysdale said: “Alan Judge, in my opinion, exaggerates his fall in a desperate attempt to gain a penalty kick for his team.

“I then processed what had happened for a few seconds before blowing my whistle and decided to caution Alan Judge for an act of trying to deceive a match official.

“As I blew my whistle Alan Judge shouted aggressively in a loud voice at me and from a distance of only five metres: ‘It’s a f****** penalty you cheating bald c***!’

“Reacting completely out of character, I took exception to what I considered to be an offensive comment.

“I walked towards Alan Judge who then continued his tirade of abuse as he then, what I deemed as, aggressively and provokingly pointed his finger towards my face and shouted: ‘You’re a f****** cheating c***!’

“I accept that I should not have moved my head towards Alan Judge as this only inflamed the situation. At no time was there any physical contact between myself and Alan Judge.

“My action of moving forward was as a posture of authority and with the player being significantly shorter than me, this led to me looking down at him. I then issued a yellow card to Alan Judge for his exaggerated fall.”

“I’ve got a decent reputation in the game and I won’t stand by and be accused of saying something I didn’t and not responding”

Alan Judge has angrily disputed Darren Drysdale’s recall of the events at the end of Town’s game with Northampton last month that resulted in the referee being charged with improper conduct.

The official appeared to square up to the Blues midfielder following protests from Alan over not getting a penalty decision in the last minute of the goalless draw.

Drysdale apologised for his actions to the Club and Alan through the PGMOL (Professional Game Match Officials Limited) the following day and was subsequently charged by the FA.

He admitted the charge and an independent Regulatory Commission today awarded him a back-dated suspension and gave him a warning to his future conduct but it’s the version of events that the referee gave to the Commission that has infuriated Alan, with the official claiming he was called a cheat and the ‘four letter C word’.

“I said the incident was over as far as I was concerned when I walked off the pitch and that I wasn’t looking for an apology,” Alan told the Club website.

“I didn’t want to make anything of it because it’s a tough job being a referee but I’m not going to keep quiet when I’ve been accused of calling the referee a cheat and using the C word.

“I’ll admit using the F word but I said to him ‘you have got to be F…… joking me and I said that a couple of times to him. I never used the C word. I don’t use that word and I didn’t call him a cheat.

“My mum passed away last week – which is far more important than this – and I don’t need this hassle to be honest. Like I said, the matter was closed but I’ve got a decent reputation in the game and I won’t stand by and be accused of saying something I didn’t and not responding.

“Our media team have got some audio and it backs me up. Some people have said I should have come out straightaway and explained what I said but I didn’t want to do that. I was trying to help Darren. I said the matter was finished and it was but I have to make it clear now that I totally dispute what has been said by the referee.”

There was reaction when Alan Judge fumes as Darren Drysdale reveals what was said in bust-up, see what they had to say below…

@chambosfistpump: This ref is trying to save face. He’ll say anything to try and make himself look like the innocent party. I’m sure having players swear at you can’t be fun, but his reaction cannot be seen as ok from an official. I expect him to stand down at the end of the season…

@vanny56: Players reacting to the ref like they do cannot be seen as OK, should they stand down

@ruiningfootball: About time a ref stopped taking shit from players.

@ColinPeppiatt: Should’ve been yellow card for the dive, second yellow for dissent. Doing the job properly would’ve prevented Drysdale getting into this mess.

@ALoadofDucks: “I didn’t call you baldy, baldy”

@FOOTBALLITKCOM: “Our media team have got some audio and it backs me up.” Why not just share that with the appropriate authorities and it’ll be sorted…?

@Ba77aTheGooner: Probably have? 🤷‍♂️ Doesn’t need to release it to us does he.

@patrickthemurph: Am I the only one who ain’t got a problem with the ref??

@Lew_91: This hits home, justice for all baldies

@AlexITFC2: Backing you here all the way @10judgey!

@LukeGarnham89: So Judge only got booked for his ‘dive’ meaning he was not punished for the language the ref alleges he used. Yet minutes later Flynn Donnes gets a straight red for offensive language. Which begs the question, what on earth did Flynn Downes say that was worse than Judge?

@hamdogg24: Ref is lying through his teeth would have sent him off had he really said that

@TheJimmyStu: As if using the C word would have warranted the ref’s response! He’s obviously telling porkies to save his ass.

@HarryRobsonC: 100% believe the ref. Players are pricks in the heat of the moment.

@peter_j_boyle: Disgraceful from a professional referee. Needs to be challenged.

@Josh____freeman: Don’t worry Judgey, he is a bald c**t

@donnachaG07: Play the audio that Judge claims his media team has to prove that he did nt say abusive comments to the ref… that ll be the end of that then…

@TheImmenseBooth: If he is lying there should be some serious punishment. I dont think anyone really cared about the squaring up but the effects on someone’s reputation false allegations like that could ave is a big issue

@DarraghHolly: Ref is an idiot. Alan buried his mother this week and the ref comes out with this garbage. Refs are cursed at all the time from amateur to professional. It’s not OK but it’s part of the game. If you haven’t got the balls for it – don’t be a ref
