Alan Brazil in awkward talkSPORT studio spat with women’s football rant live on air

Alan Brazil got himself in a rather awkward talkSPORT studio spat with a rant on women’s football while live on air this week.

The 65 year old talkSPORT presenter was also labelled a “proper dinosaur” after suggesting that fans aren’t interested in women’s football.

He didn’t hold back on Thursday morning when talking about Manchester United’s new strategy, ‘Mission 21’, as well as a ‘Mission 1’ to help the women’s team claim their first-ever Women’s Super League title.

Colleague Shebahn Aherne. also sat in the studio. said that one objective was to boost the silverware haul of United’s women’s side.

“With the greatest respect, when you talk about Manchester United,” Alan began.

“Women’s football is getting more important now but when you talk about Manchester United, this is the men’s we’re talking about, the Premier League when we’re talking about mission impossible, not the women’s.”

He doubled down: “It isn’t. I’m sorry, people around the world are not bothered. It is true. They’re not [bothered]. Within the bigger picture, they’re not.

“No, the bigger picture is fans want to see Manchester United in the Premier League challenging. That’s the bigger picture. It’s not that important compared to the bigger picture. I’m not going to sit here and lie because it’s not.”

Aherne then hit back: “Al, stop being like that. You sound like a proper dinosaur this morning. I don’t know why you’re being like that.” Only for Brazil to counter: “You’re kidding yourself on.”

Aherne added: “That’s unbelievable from you. You’re the one with the granddaughter playing football, listen to yourself. Right now, that’s important.”

The video is a must watch, proper awkward viewing… (SOUND ON!)

@Joey7Barton tweeted: “Alan Brazil is absolutely right. Cosplay Man United winning a WSL title is not a priority. These female jokers trying to pretend that real football fans are arsed. Fancy dress won’t ever be taken seriously no matter how many Trojan horses you put in the MSM. 😭😭😭”

Common Sense with Joey Barton (@Common_SensePod): “She’s fucking deluded. 99% of Man Utd fans couldn’t name 3 Man Utd WSL players! THEY DONT CARE. Man Utd u15’s are more of a priority to their fans than the WSL fancy dress lot. Take your head out your arse and stay in your lane.”

Twitter users reacted on Alan Brazil in an awkward talkSPORT studio spat with a women’s football rant live on air…

@KianBarlow7: Don’t think we will be hearing Alan Brazil on talksport for much longer🤣🤣🤣

@RusselI2103: Credit to Sheban Aherne on calling out Alan Brazil for his misogynistic viewpoints this morning. Bloke is an absolute dinosaur and should be sacked @talkSPORT

@magpieranger99: In the context of that discussion Alan is absolutely spot on. The fact that she starts getting emotional bringing up his grandkids is the exact reason why women’s games being held back.

@BIGdoodie82: Alan is right for a lot of people, women’s football may as well be a different sport for me. I know some may get offended by that but I just don’t have any invested interest in it and don’t think I ever will. Gabby’s face though 😅 the fact he’s quiet means he agrees

@carpettony1: He’s absolutely spot on. Women’s football has its place , does any body outside of UK care about the WSL? Do they travel halfway round world to watch some un-memorable female footballers? ABSOLUTELY NOT

@TriniBossHogg: He’ll be off air next week.

@tommyboyrocksit: He’s not explained it very well, but the sentiment and priority he’s talking about is correct. Haven’t got a single man united mate who cares more than 1 out of 100% what the women do compared to the men’s.

@MicroscoftPaint: He’s right, but he’s not explained it very well. Ineos didn’t buy United to get the female team a league title. They have to say that, though.

@Adam_Bateman_UK: Alan Brazil is an old fossil. I am embarrassed to say that he ever played for the club. He is sooooo out of touch, his closed mindedness is bang out of order. Plenty of people want to see the women’s team win the WSL. His views are just wrong on so many levels. #MUFC #MUWomen

@swann2204: Got a feeling Mr Brazil will be off air for a few weeks . He might be right about Man utd fans not caring about the woman’s team but he should have kept his mouth shut and she’s not far off wrong bet he is regularly off sick because he is still pissed up from night before 🤣🤣

@oufc_rowan: he’s spot on. couldn’t care less how the women’s team get on, this is the worst it’s ever been as a united fan and the women winning something won’t make it one bit better. fair play to them if they do well but it’s a complete different sport to men’s premier league football

@Dpn76: The crowds show Alan is right

@jdvillain_: he is but there’s a better way of having that discussion. in the broader picture of football fans, the majority do not care about the women’s team. that’s why it brings in less money from fans and sponsors

@joshphillip5: We all know he’s right but he could very well be unemployed this time next week after that 😂😂😂

@gavd_95: He’s said nothing wrong? There’s isn’t an issue with Man U women’s, nothing has changed for them. The whole consensus is the fall from grace for the men’s team so that’s what the project is about? That’s all I took from it not a dig at the women’s game at all.

@______Shiv: Alan Brazil is an absolute numptey for saying this on national radio LIVE! Manchester United fans don’t care about our women’s team? Oh fuck off you miserable old man! We obviously do care, we want to dominate the women’s game in future

@agage6: He’s just saying what majority of world actually thinks.

@NickCatterall: Alan is correct here, the vast majority of Utd fans don’t care about the womens’ team. I’m guessing at the actual figures, but possibly for every 1000 Man Utd fans, there’s 1 who cares what the womens’ team does.

@jonathonchapma2: Alan Brazil, brave enough to voice his opinion in an era where we are supposed to bow down and accept agendas being rammed down our throats at every opportunity, fair play
