Despite being told a swift appointment is the hope especially with pre-season starting this week, the club are still on the search for a new manager following the surprise departure of Darren Moore.
Moore stepped down last month (June) after spending two years in charge of the club and guided the Owls to promotion to the Championship via the playoffs in 2022-23.
Wednesday are currently in the process of appointing a new manager and have been in contact with a number of those battling out for the job.
After starting his managerial career at Danish side Esbjerg, Thorup then linked up with the Danish national team to coach the Under-20s and Under-21s.
He then went to Midtjylland in 2015 and spent three years in charge of the side, winning the Danish Superliga in 2017-18 and his success continued a few years later.
Having spent three years in Belgium in charge of Gent and Genk, he then went back to his homeland, this time as manager of FC Copenhagen in 2020 and clinched a second league title in 2021/22.
Thorup waved goodbye to them in September 2022 after a poor start, nonetheless, he finished his time at Copenhagen with a 55.68 win percentage after taking charge of 88 games.

Here’s what fans said as 53 year old manager Jess Thorup is reportedly named a ‘top contender’ for the Sheffield Wednesday job as fans grow impatient…
@supasid53: This short list seems to be getting longer.
@owlsaboutthat1: Tell me I wasn’t the only one to Google him
@Tonester1985: Im not having Xisco Munoz. Thats all. #SWFC
@LetchworthOwl: Surely DC hasn’t dithered and second guessed himself so much that he’s picking the cheaper, less experienced option 🤔 #swfc
@SteveJ2403:
All of #swfc twitter:
‘Announce a manger already, we’re getting impatient’
‘No, not that manager’
‘No, not that one either’
‘Nor that one’
‘What’s taking so long, just appoint a manager’.
‘No, not that one’…
@CharlieCassid20: I’m getting so impatient #swfc
@marshmellowowls: Rather have Xisco, than Ince or Jones. He’s got promotion to prem on his CV and was unlucky to get sacked at Watford 15th in prem. If you think he’s “cheap option” ya really are clueless lol granted not my choice but it’s silly the whinging for every single name mentioned #swfc
@tommyuto: All this manager merry-go-round and it’ll just be Garry Monk won’t it… #swfc
@tomswfc91: Another day… another manager 😂 #swfc
@danielarcher92: Can we announce a new gaffer or what season starts in under 5 week #swfc
@_tombeal: Don’t care just want one at this point
@marshmellowowls: Stop fucking about now wednesday #swfc
@JonathanDaley: Think it’s gonna be Xisco. My personal pick would be mark robins at Coventry
@FFPTB78: The longer this goes on the more I feel like it won’t be smith. Like, if he’s the one you want just go out and get him 🤷♂️
@martynowl: Billic
@dazma: Slaven bilic for me
