49 year old experienced former EFL player signs for 21st club of his career

49 year old experienced former EFL player Lee Trundle signs for Welsh outfit Cwmbran Town, the 21st club of his career.

He’s still going strong, showing no signs for stopping anytime soon, with Cwmbran Town saying the signing will improve a squad, make a statement, and get people sitting up and say ‘wow’.

His new club finished the 2025/26 season sitting 2nd in the Elite Stands Ardal South East League (third tier), with 66 points from 30 games played, just a point behind the winners Caerphilly Athletic.

A statement on the club’s website read:

The club is proud to announce the signing of football legend Lee Trundle!

Few players have captured the imagination of football supporters quite like Lee. A player renowned for his skill, creativity, passion and personality, he arrives at Cwmbrân Town with a career spanning more than two decades at the highest levels of Welsh and English football.

While Lee’s quality on the pitch needs no introduction, this signing is about far more than football. His experience, professionalism and winning mentality will be invaluable throughout the club. From our senior players to the next generation coming through our youth sections, Lee will provide inspiration, guidance and a living example of what can be achieved through dedication and hard work.

For our young players especially, this is a unique opportunity to learn from one of football’s most iconic figures – someone who has played on some of the biggest stages in the game while never losing his love for football.

Welcome to the Crows, Lee.

Chairman Dan O’Connell said: “This is a huge moment for Cwmbrân Town. Lee isn’t just an outstanding footballer, he’s a role model and an ambassador for the game. The impact he can have on our younger players, our supporters and the wider club is enormous. His arrival demonstrates the ambition we have as a football club and our determination to continue building something special here. We are absolutely delighted to welcome him to Cwmbrân Town.”

Lee Trundle said: “I’m delighted to be joining Cwmbrân Town. It’s a club with a proud history, passionate people and real ambition for the future. I’ve had some fantastic conversations with those involved and I can see what they’re trying to build. If I can help the players, help the younger generation coming through and play my part in helping Cwmbrân move back towards where a club of this size belongs, then that’s something I’m excited to be part of. I’m looking forward to getting started and meeting the supporters.”

First Team Manager Brandon Simpson said: “We’re delighted to welcome Lee Trundle to Cwmbrân Town. Lee brings huge experience, real quality, and has been there and done it across the game. He’ll be a huge boost for the squad and the club as a whole. We’re excited to have him with us and can’t wait to see the impact he’ll make this season.”

General Manager Scott Packer said: “An exciting signing ahead of the new season, the club will benefit so much just from Lee Trundle’s experience alone. Welcome Lee and looking forward to meeting you in person.”
