Yves Bissouma says sorry to Spurs fans for inhaling hippy crack, an illegal substance in the UK, after losing £1m in raids on his home.
The 29 year old Tottenham Hotspur midfielder was seen in footage which emerged in The Sun showing him using it last month.
This is his second such incident, following a suspension in 2024, but has now spoken openly with The Sun to explain tough times he’s experienced.
Bissouma says he’s faced severe mental health struggles, including depression and paranoia, triggered by multiple burglaries and robberies, with luxury watches, jewellery, designers bags, skateboard, and trainers stolen.
He has also been targeted three times, including a violent home invasion, a mugging in France, and alleged fraud by a friend.
Bissouma, sidelined by injuries and prior disciplinary issues, hasn’t played since August season and expressed remorse to fans while aiming to raise mental health awareness.

He said: “I am sorry. This incident broke something in me I didn’t even know I could break.
“I apologise to the fans. The trauma added to my life — fear, panic, depression and paranoia.
“I feel really bad about it. I have to apologise. When the picture came out it affected me and everyone, especially my family.
“When my Dad saw it, he was panicking because he didn’t feel good. I tried to make him understand that it’s a hard image, but not who I am.
“I know it’s not good for me, for my image, because I’m a professional football player.”
In the video following a raid, he says: “Look what they did. They come (sic) and robbed me.
“My watches . . . they robbed my watches. They robbed my jewellery.
“Like, it’s actually crazy, like. What they did in my room is f*g . . . I can’t believe that.
“I just . . . oh my god. Look at all of my watches. They took everything. They took my jewellery. They took my bags as well.”
Yves continues in his interview with The Sun: “I’m a strong person. I’m a mentally and physically strong African man.
“I’ve faced battles and storms, but these incidents . . . they broke something in me I didn’t even know could break. I’ve asked myself, ‘why me?’, more times than I can count.
“I hate feeling like a victim, but what I lost wasn’t just material.
“It was what the trauma added to my life — fear, panic, depression, paranoia, sleepless nights and a constant loss of trust.
“I don’t want to talk about it [the balloon] any more because it’s over. But to the fans, I am very sorry.”
“My mental health has been bad at times. It is not an excuse for what happened, but I hope people can maybe understand me a bit more because of this.
“Sometimes, I was too scared to sleep at home so I slept in the training ground.
“For like three, four, sometimes five days, I was sleeping there because I did not want to be at home. Even talking about this is hard. All these things were going on in my head, worrying about my dad who is not well, and sometimes I think as a human, it’s a bit hard.
“You’re trying to stay strong. On my face I was trying to show love but my insides were burning. I spoke with a mental health therapist sometimes five times a week.
“It’s depression, yes. Was I crying to die? No. Sometimes in life you feel a bit down, but have to try to refresh your mind and stay strong.
“Everything I do, it is for my family. I just try to keep them safe. I don’t want them seeing (social media) abuse, I relax by playing on computer games, playing with my son and spending time with my family.
“They instilled religion in me and yes, I pray to God. I pray a lot. I’m a spiritual person, and that’s coming from my family.
“I want to move on from my mistakes. I like playing for Tottenham. I’m just thinking about being fit again and trying to enjoy football.”

Social media users gave their reaction as Yves Bissouma says sorry to Spurs fans for inhaling hippy crack after losing £1m in raids on his home…
@horsebox98: I don’t respect Frank or the club for freezing him out and treating him like trash when this is clearly an extremely difficult time for him. We should be supporting our players, whether they are starters or not, or in our plans for the future or not
@SandysBitxh_: This is heartbreaking. There is such a stereotype for men to not ask for help. He’s made mistakes. Yes not good ones. But he needs help. Hopefully Tottenham can help him out…
@Gangstaswag1: Some of the comments really show how little football fans see players as humans. No, I’m not condoning the balloons (hate that I have to write it in plural) but he’s clearly going through a rough time? If you don’t want to support him, can you at least stay quiet?
@thfcbd_: This is honestly really really sad, I hope he’s getting the help he needs and turns his career around
