York City have decided to cheekily troll Newcastle’s Allan Saint-Maximin with social media footage of their pre-season win over the Magpies.
The Premier League outfit got their friendly off to a disastrous start as they were beaten 1-0 by the National League North outfit.
After struggling to create any clear chances throughout the 90 minutes, Newcastle United were made to pay as Michael Duckworth’s excellent header secured the victory at the York Community Stadium (aka LNER Stadium), with fans in attendance finally!
Steve Bruce handed a number of big names including the likes of Ryan Fraser, Callum Wilson and Allan Saint-Maximin with their first run-outs of the season, but they struggled to break down the organised underdogs and were eventually punished.
It may be a friendly, but it didn’t stop York City cheekily put out a tweet showing a touch of class from one of their own players…

Steve Bruce was even said to have turned around and applauded the defensive move from York City.
His side were forced into an early change with Joelinton lasting just 18 minutes before having to be replaced, then, Dwight Gayle was on for barely two minutes when he put in a lovely through ball for Ryan Fraser who hit the outside the post with his lifted effort.
In a rather quiet rest of the half, York’s Michael Duckworth’s ball across goal forced 20-year-old Magpies keeper Dan Langley into a decent save behind.
Newcastle continued the second half on the front foot, though the closest they got before the pre-scheduled drinks break was through an own goal when Oliver Dyson couldn’t convert Allan Saint-Maximin’s cross into his own net, forcing the ‘keeper to tip it over.
Saint-Maximin’s introduction certainly gave Newcastle the much needed spark they were looking for and he nearly opened the scoring with a wonderful solo goal as he picked the ball up inside his own half, beat several players before playing Gayle through, but couldn’t quite convert the finish when the striker laid it back again for him.
York threatened to steal the victory when Scott Barrow’s deflected effort confuse Langley though it bounced just wide of the post with five minutes to play.
Shortly after, right-back Duckworth leapt up excellently to loop a header past Langley to put the home side ahead.

“Listen, we’re disappointed with the result, of course, but it’s not all about the result” said Bruce.
“We didn’t deserve to lose, but it just shows you if you don’t play with the intensity and the speed and the pace you normally do, then you get frustrating afternoons like we’ve just had. It’s all about fitness levels.
“We’ve had a really big week in terms of the levels of what they got up to, and the kilometres they’ve done, so it’s the first of getting ready for the challenge of four weeks away.
“It was a decent workout, apart from the result.”
Fans reacted as York City troll Newcastle’s Saint-Maximin with footage that Steve Bruce approved of…
@andrew_michael: Goal saving defending if Newcastle United had scored then they could have gone on to get number two. This resulted in us getting the winner not long after thanks to Duckworth
@charlieycfc: @Josh_M_King my hero mate, class that❤️
@wirenapper: Go on Josh lad. Keep working hard kidda 🔴⚪️🔴⚪️🔴⚪️

@Mnuge_: I used to have sex with him back in the day
@mrwozzer1974: Steve Bruce turned round after that and gave a smile and nod of approval

@Joshdcfc1: Rock at the back
@tibbott99: It’s a travesty if he’s only a squad player again this season. He needs to be playing every week now – he’s so ready for it.
@WilkieMr: What a player, big season coming from him

ON THE FULL TIME SCORE:
@JaiCee94: Thought Ryan Whitley played great today. Should provide stronger competition for Jameson this season imo
@LSissoYCFC: @asaintmaximin you can stick your Gucci headband up your arse
@Aaaaaaa20611573: Can’t read too much into pre season games, but Newcastle are premier league, so even their 4th or 5th team should have better quality than a conference North side. Early days but positive signs, come on Steve & the boys, its got to be promotion this season, surely !!!
@_andyhandy: Great performance from City. Looked good all over the pitch. Very promising season ahead going by today’s efforts.
@iandwightbenton:*A VERY well-deserved…..#YCFC
@bigrego85: Newcastle are such a small club. Bankers to go down next season. Truly awful side. That Joelinton isn’t even a footballer. Super Steve Bruce!
@MinstermenDK: Announce promotion!
@ftblArran: well done lads we are so shit ffs
Really enjoyed it. Two victories out of two now – Whitby (A) Won 2-1 & Newcastle United (H) Won 1-0. Now on to Sunderland on Wednesday. pic.twitter.com/j0TfsccFHt
