Yeovil chairman leaves fans reeling with what he did during fans’ protest

Yeovil Town chairman Scott Priestnall leaves home fans reeling with what he did during fans’ protest at Huish Park on Saturday.

The Glovers pulled off a 2-1 victory against National League leaders Stockport County who slip up again, giving second place Wrexham an opportunity to close the gap, only for them to lose at Woking.

Yeovil’s Tom Knowles and Josh Neufville scored either side of the interval as Stockport, who had Will Collar sent off in the final quarter, picked up a second defeat in three games.

County produced too many wasteful chances with Paddy Madden hitting a volley over the crossbar while Yeovil goalkeeper Grant Smith prevented efforts from Andy Cannon and Ryan Rydel.

Knowles worked his way through the Stockport defence to put Yeovil ahead on the 39th minute before doubling their lead on the 58th minute when Luton loanee Neufville got on the end of a through on goal pass and slotted home cooly.

Myles Hippolyte halved the deficit with 20 left on the clock, but Collar was immediately sent off for a high boot.

Yeovil fans knew that chairman Scott Priestnall was be in attendance and the clubā€™s official Twitter said that that he was ā€œaddressing supportersā€ in the Alec Stock Lounge ahead of the game with the Gloversā€™ Trust calling for fans to protest at the game and outside Huish Park after the final whistle.

According to Goverscast, this was first time the owner was seen at the ground on a matchday since the FA Cup third round match, televised on BBC, in January.

The club said earlier this week that the chairman was ā€œassembling a new boardā€ for next season.

It has also been revealed that a deal to sell the clubā€™s stadium and land surrounding it to South Somerset District Council is close to completion, however director Glenn Collis has resigned saying he had ā€œquestions about the clubā€™s direction.ā€

In a statement posted on social media ahead of the game with the National League leaders, the Gloversā€™ Trust called on fans to ā€œprotest peacefully, but vocallyā€ outside Huish Park immediately after the match.

It said: ā€œWe encourage all fans to make their voices heard during the game in a peaceful manner. We would also encourage fans to gather outside the clubā€™s entrance to continue to make our voices heard after the final whistle.

ā€œLetā€™s protest peacefully, but vocally. It has never been more important for fans to make their feelings known.

ā€œThis is bigger than any game or any season. This is about fighting for the future of the club we love.ā€

The Trust has also launched a petition calling on South Somerset District Council to reverse its decision to buy the stadium. By 1pm on Saturday, it had attracted more than 300 signatures.

The headlines of his talk were:

– He accepted an offer to takeover the club from Simul Sports, but said the consortium ā€œnever put money on the table.ā€œ

– The deal to sell Huish Park and surrounding land to South Somerset District Council ā€œremains an option.ā€œ

– A new manager, players and a board of directors will be appointed by Priestnall before he releases details of season tickets.

You can sign and share the petition ā€“ here.

In the stands, chants against him could be heard with a number of ā€˜Priestnall Outā€™ banners on display, then it continues after the match, as can be seen below.

As mentioned, the Yeovil chairman leaves fans reeling with what he did during the fans’ protest…

@yleiov: Heā€™s got to go. Absolute helmet

@philpark18: šŸ˜” #PriestnallOut

@JohnAOakes: LOOK AT HOW EMPTY IT IS! That’s on you, @scottpriestnall

@RyanBlatchford: Confronted with an angry fan base today, the narcissistic piece of shit @scottpriestnall just smiled and waved. This tells me two things.. 1) he doesnā€™t give a fuck, no amount of protest will change that. And 2) thereā€™s something here heā€™s clinging on for, or heā€™d have gone #ytfc

@MikeH88: Over the next days & weeks there will be lots of empty rhetoric from SP. We have to drown out his noise with our own. His actions speak louder than his empty words. We must unite as fans. Today he smiled & waved at us from his posh seat. Please, underestimate us. #YTFC

@SkinnerAdam: The bloke stinks. Has zero class and zero clue how to run a football club. Iā€™ve no interest in anything he has to say.

@AndrewFoot84: Also, Scott Priestnall is still an odious leech on our football club and I’ll take nothing positive from what he has to say, unless it includes the phrase ‘I’m leaving’. #ytfc #priestnallout

@MikeH88: ā€˜I watch every game because I have a little camera here and watch every game from home liveā€™. @scottpriestnall actually said these words. šŸ¤¦šŸ¼ā€ā™‚ļøšŸ¤£ #YTFC

@sam_jee_8: fuck off scott you ratty thieving fuck #YTFC

@trevorduck2: Did anyone notice they played the music load at end of match so you couldnā€™t hear Priestnall out chants #ytfc šŸ§¤šŸ’š

@Martyn_Lucas: Very stupid of him to wave at the fans shouting after the game!
