Wycombe Wanderers release a statement condemning the behaviour of a fan after an incident in the Fulham Carabao Cup tie.
A ‘missile’ was thrown from the stands struck an assistant referee at the end of the game, prompting League One Wycombe to launch an investigation, saying they will work to identify the culprit.
Fulham survived a huge scare, making it through to the quarter-finals thanks to a penalty shoot-out win (5-4) after a 1-1 draw.
Wycombe Wanderers are disappointed to report that a missile was thrown from the terrace, striking an assistant referee, following the conclusion of tonight’s Carabao Cup tie.

Issa Diop scored the decisive sudden-death spot-kick and goalkeeper Benjamin Lecomte saving three Wycombe penalties.
Cauley Woodrow, a former Fulham player, gave Wycombe an early lead with a 20-yard strike, but Josh King levelled the scoreline shortly after half time with his first senior goal from a corner.
Despite a brighter second half from Fulham, including efforts from King and summer signing Kevin, neither side scored again, leading to the shootout where Lecomte’s saves from Ewan Henderson, Fred Onyedinma, and Donnell McNeilly proved crucial.
Wycombe Wanderers head coach Michael Duff said, per Bucks Free Press:
“The attitude and mentality of the players has been brilliant since I walked in, and we have to keep on working.
“We defended with our backs to the wall, showed moments of quality with and without the ball, as we knew we weren’t going to outdo football Fulham.
“I’m proud of the performance as the players did everything I asked them to.”
He continued: “The fans turned up in their numbers and we said before the game that we needed to give them something to shout about.
“It’s always a two-way street, as the players gave them something to shout about and they [the fans] got them through the last 10 minutes.
“The supporters want to see the players sweating and putting bodies on the line, which is something that we want to do all the time.
“Hopefully, a few fans will come back as they watched a good game of football and we saw lots of things you want to see.
“I enjoyed watching the game against a really good team.
“Supporters and players were magnificent even though we went out.”
Fulham head coach Marco Silva:
“Of course, we knew our obligation was to be in the next round even though it’s not a word that should be in football because we know surprises happen in this competition if your approach is not serious enough.
“We were serious, but when you come off some bad results, you have to be positive and confident, but you feel something around and the first minutes of the game showed that. It was their only shot on target they had, and it was a goal we should’ve defended better.
“We didn’t play with the intensity we should have in the first half but we did after that, and we created seven or eight clear chances. I told the players, in these types of moments, we are the first ones who have to be positive.
“We know the picture in our club, in our dressing room. We know the future is going to be better when we have players back, but we have to fight for this moment altogether.”
Twitter users gave their reaction as Wycombe release statement condemning the behaviour of a fan after an incident in the Fulham cup tie…
@MVS_EnjoyerWWFC: Absolutely unacceptable of course but something has to be said about the officials today. Shambolic
@WycombeComanche: If you are the person that threw the bottle at the assistant referee… Read these words. You are not part of our club. You do not support Wycombe Wanderers. You are an idiot. You do not belong with us. You will be found. And you will never watch Wycombe again. Idiot
@ITFCBlues_1: absolutely vile. hope whoever it was gets banned for life. disgusting behaviour.
@1887Jb94193: It’s a shame – i watched it hit the lino and it just soured the pride I felt slightly in the team and club tonight. The Lino was genuinely diabolical today needs a full investigation into what they were trying to achieve but it’s not acceptable in any situation
@Alky007: Disgraceful act. Get whoever it was gone from the club.
@matthoade: Brainless idiot hope he’s permanently banned and arrested
@Nimrod042: Life ban please when found
@JGsLongThrow: 1 tactical masterclass, 14 heroes in blue, 7799 helped create an incredible atmosphere, and yet one knobhead gets a share of the headlines by acting in a way that is not representative of @wwfcofficial. Get out and stay out of our club #Chairboys
@Nick19872025: If the officials did their jobs properly and didn’t want Fulham to win then it probably wouldn’t have happened
@OwenReeman3: Whether they were good or bad is utterly irrelevant
@chris_owen76: True but also unacceptable
@rooster7201: What a pathetic take. Well done
@superbowring: Doesn’t excuse utter stupidity.
@barnacle1977: Oh dear 🤦♂️
Andrew Chapman Junior: The referee and both linemen were absolutely awful last night. But that doesn’t excuse throwing anything at them! Whoever threw it has let us all down.
Louis Wilcox: Identify, name, shame and ban for life.
Colin DS: Clearly an idiot with no respect for football or another person’s life. I hope that he is caught, named and shamed and banned from attending all football matches for life too.
Danielle Alice: I hope that the person got hit by one is ok and the person that did that gets permanent banned from going to football matches
Mandym Aria: Way to spoil a great night.
Val Astrop: We dont need people like that looks bad for our clubs reputation and is a bad reflection on all the great fans of our club.
Anthony Stone: Hope the idiot is identified and banned for life. What a way to ruin what was a great night for the club

Brian Greene: Ban for life. No where near football.
James Ford: Stupid thing to do, after a great night too!! Idiot.
George Tow: Always some low life who has to spoil it ,ban them for life and get them done for assault at the same time
Steve Darney: Identify them and get them banned for life – period. No time for that crap and not wanted – putting a downer on what was a tremendous night for the club.
