Wycombe player collapses on pitch at full time with everyone inside stadium left concerned

Wycombe Wanderers player Tjay De Barr collapses on the pitch at full time with everyone inside Plymouth Argyle’s stadium left concerned.

The hosts strolled to a 3-1 victory, however just as the game came to an end, the 22 year old forward fell to the ground with Bucks Free Press saying in their report that ‘no-one around him as both sets of players shook hands.’

James Richings (@James_BFP) wrote via Twitter: “Concerning scenes as De Barr has collapsed in the centre of the pitch. Paramedics have arrived and there is a huddle around the striker #Chairboys”

Wycombe said: “There was a medical incident at full-time involving Tjay De Barr. We thank the staff for their swift action and await news of his condition. #Chairboys”

A group of Wycombe players called the medics over, before he was reportedly taken off on a stretcher wrapped foil to try and keep warm.

This had been De Barr’s fifth appearance of the game coming on as a substitute, but is said to have struggled ever since he had a collision.

@James_BFP adds: “De Barr is now being stretchers off wrapped in foil. The Wycombe players applaud the away fans and we’ll keep you updated #Chairboys.

“We are waiting for updates on Tjay De Barr after he collapsed after Wycombe’s loss at Plymouth. He did well when he came on, but I did notice for about 15 seconds (and I said this on air with), he was on his haunches after a collision #Chairboys”

UPDATE (10:35pm):

Tjay De Barr has been treated on-site by medics and is in a good condition, but will go to hospital for further tests.

Thank you to everyone for their well wishes, and to the medical staff for their swift and expert assistance.

Gareth Ainsworth has stayed with Tjay De Barr, so Richard Dobson addressed the press: “Tjay is up and talking. There was great concern for his wellbeing, and we’re just waiting for the test results. Well done to the medical staff. He’s in good hands.”

The game itself saw Plymouth keep themselves top of the table, having  a four-point lead at the top of League One following a 1-0 home win over Wycombe.

Argyle opened the scoring 33 minutes in thanks to centre-back Dan Scarr meeting a corner sent on by Adam Randell, with a left-foot volley.

Plymouth’s Sam Cosgrove saw one of his efforts go just wide from the edge of the area on the 20 minute after being set up by defender Nigel Lonwijk.

Wycombe’s Ryan Tafazolli sent a headed effort over at the far post from a free kick by Joe Jacobson in the 25th minute.

Danny Mayor beat two Chairboys defenders before smashing a curled shot just wide after 48 minutes as Argyle started the second half on the front foot.

In the 55th minute Ryan Hardie smacked a shot against the woodwork having brought down Lonwijk’s high ball into the area.

Wycombe substitute Sam Vokes came close to getting an equaliser on 76 minutes with a low effort from 20 yards and also sent a header just wide, but Plymouth held on for all three points.
