Wrexham and Notts County fans took to argue at more goal controversy as Southend boss Kevin Maher slams the referee post-match.
Wrexham retained their position at the top in the National League table with a 1-0 victory over Southend.
Steve Arnold saved Ollie Palmer’s header as they pressed for an opening, but the Southend keeper, however, misplaced Ben Tozer’s cross into his own net, giving Wrexham the lead.
Arnold also sent Eoghan O’Connell’s effort onto the post, and Dan Mooney missed a great chance for the Shrimpers by mis-kicking his attempt from 12 yards.
Wrexham’s win is now a club record of 25 league matches without a defeat and a 17th home win to put them on 91 points from 37 games played, four points clear of second place Notts County.
Wrexham’s very controversial first goal.
Is anyone even surprised at this point? 🤷♂️

Kevin Maher, Southend, was furious at Southend’s decision to let the goal stand.
In September, Jake Hyde’s attempt to score against Wrexham was ruled out of bounds in a 0-0 draw.
Maher believed Arnold had been fouled by Paul Mullin, Wrexham’s striker, and couldn’t believe that the goal was allowed.
“That’s twice we’ve played Wrexham now and twice we’ve been on the end of a very, very bad decision to say the least,” he said, as per Echosport.
“Fair play to their player, he’s clever.
“He’s nicked Arnie’s arm as he’s catching the ball and nine times out of 10 it’s given.
“The cameras are in town and he might want to get himself on camera the referee.
“I don’t see how he’s not given it.
“It’s an absolutely incredible decision.”
He said via the club website: “It’s twice we played them this season and twice we’ve been on the wrong end of bad decisions. Their player’s clever and he’s just nicked Arnie’s arm as he’s catching the ball. I can’t see how the referee hasn’t seen it.
“Those moments haven’t been going our way. It shows how close we are to being a top side in this division. What you need is one or two things to go your way, btu I don’t want to keep saying how well we’ve done – we’re losing games and I want to win football matches.
“As you expect coming here, they’re a great side and they’re on a hell of a run. You know you’re going to be tested with balls coming into the box, and the forwards they’ve got are always going to create chances.
“We grew into the game and took control for long periods but just lacked that final cutting edge. I thought we were very good for long periods without opening them up.
“Cards, Chrissy Wreh and Rhys Murphy are all coming back from injury, but we needed them all to be sharp. We’re trying to get them there, but we kept probing.
“We wanted to keep shifting them about on a heavy pitch and wait for that one chance, and it nearly came. It dropped to Wes [Fonguck] on the edge of the box, and he’s got to show more belief to score.”
‘It’s an absolutely incredible decision. The cameras are in town and he might want to get himself on camera the referee.’

As mentioned, Wrexham and Notts County fans argue at goal controversy as the Southend boss slams the referee, this si what is being said online…
@mo_ralhiground: As an ex keeper, I’d have probably moaned for a free kick to hide my inability to catch a cross too.
@iainjmac: Bought the league, will be glad to see the back of them
@Gmski: From that angle, I’m not sure if Arnold fumbled or the Wrexham player knocked his arm. By the Blues reaction, seems it’s the latter.
@DavidHappyHammo: Haha. Sour grapes from the notts county fans… go Wrexham.
@TidburyG: I’ve watched it and watched it. I think Mullin arm hits Arnold’s… Possibly a foul but I expect Arnold to be strong and deal with that.
@prawnzone: In Rugby Union terms, that’s a ‘knock-on’ by Mullins
@SimplySuvo92: Whether he did punch it into the goal is hard to tell. The matter of fact is thought that if you lead with your arms in any aerial challenge, it should automatically be a foul. So many refs seem to be taken in by Wrexham’s Hollywood status and give them favourable decisions.
@beardywxm: Biggest cry arse of the season award defo goes to this guy tweeting from his mums box room.
@Ice_Speedway: Seriously, the referees at @TheVanaramaNL level are an utter disgrace. They get more incompetent every week. How is that not even flagged?
@JackkFordd11: People actually saying it’s a handball/foul? Come off it 😂😂
@Saveloy_: Mullin contacts into the GK’s right arm, the knock on effect results in the keeper scoring an own goal. I’m a Wxm fan, cheers for the 3 points but this goal shouldn’t have stood
@WAFCJoe2: Clearly off balanced by the massive brown envelope in his back pocket 💵
@Pinchy2906: Notts County Moan, I mean Zone, at it again. Obsessed. Deluded. Embarrassing
@joshwilliamsDNO: Notts county fans actually believe this is a foul 😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
@GAndrews18: Fair do’s, was genuinely perplexed at the game as to how this stood. Fortunately Notts County Zone have clearly demonstrated that the keeper palms it into his own net under zero pressure 😂 Cheers
@charles_colin: What a shyster Mullin is! Pulled Arnolds arm down and gets away with it. Ref does a runner as he knows he has cocked up by giving a goal!
@secondalibi74: I’m a Southend supporter who was at the game today, I thought there was nothing wrong with the goal at the time, and having seen replays from different angles, I haven’t changed my mind. Our keeper should have been stronger. Simple as that really. 🤷♂️
@S_Jupp_: There’s nothing wrong with that? 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
@tomhwilliams23: I like to say I’m impartial when it comes to #WxmAFC. And of course it’s not their fault the decision has gone their way – but that does look awfully dubious! Have to feel for #Blues. But as things stand Wrexham onto 91 points – a crazy total with 9 left to play!
@Chefbradpoker: Clear hand ball he punched it in the goal 🤬🤬🤬
@seangregory1988: Keepers dropped it into his own net 🤷🏻♂️
@Davesquires42: You’re clutching at straws just like the Southend keeper soft lad
@JamesAFC1: The GK just threw it into his own goal 🤷♂️
@BryanGOBsmacked: It’s not massive contact but Arnold’s left arm/hand moves in a totally unnatural way towards his goal; so clearly down to Mullin’s foul.
@JBWicklund: I thought Mullin pulled on his arm until I saw the replay. Never touched him
@rltopley: Goalie pushed it in with his left hand, looks like minimal contact from Mullin 🤷♀️
@BlueHoody: Interesting decision to slow it down and prove even further you’ve cheated. Really rubbing it in, maybe that’s how you wanna win the league
@craigyjones17: Genuinely nothing wrong with it at all. Well done to Paul Marsden for seeing that contact was very minimal.
