Wrexham 3-2 Coventry: Kieffer Moore’s perfect hat-trick ends Sky Blues’ 12 game unbeaten run

Kieffer Moore’s perfect hat-trick ends Coventry’s 12 game unbeaten run with Wrexham beating the Sky Blues 3-2 on Friday night.

Ephron Mason-Clark had given Coventry the lead on 22 minutes, but Moore netted three times in the space of 23 minutes in the second half to take his goal tally to nine for the season.

Tatsuhiro Sakamoto curled beyond Arthur Okonkwo in the 88th minute to give the visitors some hope, but they couldn’t get that equaliser.

The result leaves Frank Lampard’s side three points clear of 2nd place Middlesbrough having played a game more, but miss out on what would have been a club record seventh successive league win.

Meanwhile, for Phil Parkinson’s men – they pick up back-to-back home league wins for the first time this season – up to 11th in the Championship table.

Wrexham hat-trick hero Kieffer Moore speaking to Sky Sports:

“Delighted of course [with the hat-trick] but the main thing is we got the win, so extremely happy. Three points – buzzing.

“I just need to keep making the runs and I know [Josh Windass] will find me.

“I think we have shown over the season some good performances, but I think we needed to cement that with a win like this over a side at the top of the table.

“We’ll kick on from here.”

Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson speaking to Sky Sports: “I’m very pleased, it’s a great night for us, it really is.

“I thought first half we had some great moments to score, we missed that chance and then we got punished.

“I felt we were the better side in the first period, some of our approach play was really good.

“That was a performance if ever there was one for us to gain belief as a group it was that one, but after tonight we’ve got to go up a level.

“That was a proper Wrexham performance, which our fans have been used to over the years. The lads are on a high in there, they deserve to enjoy the moment, but they’ll be back in training on Monday night.”

Coventry boss Frank Lampard, speaking to Sky Sports: “This team has been extraordinary for 12 games, to do what we have done in the Championship, not many teams can do it. Then today we were ordinary in our performance.

“We have had a challenging week because we lost three of the back four. But that’s not pointing at the players who came into those areas, that’s looking at us as a whole and saying we were not quite at it today.

“It’s a difficult game. We knew that before. The way they play, the atmosphere and the environment here.

“I smelt it at half-time, even at 1-0 up. I could smell it. We just dropped a bit.

“Maybe that happens when you are 12 unbeaten and win six on the bounce.

“We can’t believe our own hype. This league is long. And don’t worry, we are good. But this is what happens to normal teams, and we haven’t been that.

“So we better show in the next games what we really are again.”

Here’s how fans reacted as Kieffer Moore’s perfect hat-trick ends Coventry’s 12 game unbeaten run with Wrexham beating the Sky Blues 3-2…

@NewboldJrd: Didn’t think much of Woofy.. let’s go again on Tuesday. The streak had to end at some point. All about the reaction now!

@racecourserambl: good game, we edged it tonight but you’re still a good side who will reset after this. good luck

@MitchCrompton69: At least we’re still unbeaten in England

@2022BenjiC:
Now the hype is over
Defeat been coming last 3 games
Teams have been better in certain areas
Tonight Moore dominated 4 defenders
Where as our striker tackled himself
Wake up call has been given

@AlfieBa68651886: 2nd half on Saturday and 90mins today were poor don’t rate wolf at all but still top of the league

@DamienK73: Spooky but somewhat predictable. It had to happen at some point. We go again #PUSB

@jmak316: Anyone who has watched the last few games cannot be surprised. Win the next and we are good.

@w00kiee77: So very proud of the lads tonight, didn’t get their heads down after that first goal but kept up the domination and then came out strong in the second half and didn’t let up! Amazing home crowd that the players really fed off, absolutely SPECTACULAR game! #WxmAFC #askwxm

@Shaunwrexham: Thats an unbelievably good performance! Seriously Seriously good performance! Thats how you bounce back! Proper wrexham performance! Absolutely superb

@Llewcalon: Llongyfarchiadau! Brilliant win for you guys! Fully deserved. We were poor and a loss was on the cards. Keep up that level and you’ll come right up the table! Best of luck for the season until we see you at the CBS!

@CCFCSBA_: Fair play lads, even when we were winning you were dominating, fully deserved even with our bad individual performances.

@Mpoe80: WOW… Super Kiefer Moore putting the team on his shoulders with a 2nd half hat trick….just wish someone else could attempt an on goal shot not right at the keeper…but im not complaining they got it done tonight

@pusb1991: No side in this league can have 5 of their starting 11 out and expect to roll everybody. Bit of perspective needed

@dezroberts1: What a difference 3 days make ey, proper performance that & the scorenline actually flattered them. Kieffer Moore ballon do’r😮‍💨 great response from that disaster on Tuesday

@barnsey__15: We don’t go up with kitching in our defence, he has NEVER been good enough. Bidwell plays like he can only move his joints at a 45 degree angle. Kesler Hayden showing why we can’t lose MVE. Tatsu has been let down by the rest of the squad

@OnlyPolkadot: You can’t win them all. But we’ll win fuck all with Jamie Allen and Bidwell at sea for the majority of the game. Wolf was absolutely shocking too. Wright and Asante were off the pace. We are allowed to lose game here and there but the manner of that is worrying

@_Deez_Games: Jokes aside we needed this wake up call. We’ve been shit for all of october. Haji is fucking tragic but as usual he scores a few goals and everyone thinks he’s the second coming of jesus. Fuck Bidwell off immediately, make the cunt walk home.

@CharPUSB: Let’s not overreact, was always going to happen. All about how we bounce back. Just gotta say, Bidwell and Wolf were so poor.

@SephtonMark: Gross. Wrexham deserved it. Not the right lineup. Big players had an off day. Tats only one that shined tonight. Tuesday night is going to be tough, no Kitching and potential no Bobby. #PUSB
