Wolverhampton Wanderers are back in Europe for the first time after almost 40 years, since the 1980–81 UEFA Cup where they were knocked out in the first round by PSV, and today they have found out their opponents in the latest Europa League draw.
Wolves come in at the Second Qualifying Round and it has been confirmed that they will face the winners of Crusaders (NIR) / B36 Tórshavn (FRO). with Nuno’s men playing the first leg on the 25th of July, and the second legs on the 1st of August 2019.
The Premier League side were seeded with Aris Thessaloniki (GRE), Esbjerg (DEN), Vitória SC (POR), Budapest Honvèd (HUN) / Žalgiris Vilnius (LTU) and Partizan (SRB). The unseeded were AEL Limassol (CYP), Sabail (AZE) / Universitatea Craiova (ROU), Shakhtyor Soligorsk (BLR) / Hibernians (MLT), Connah’s Quay (WAL) / Kilmarnock (SCO), Crusaders (NIR) / B36 Tórshavn (FRO) and Jeunesse Esch (LUX) / Tobol Kostanay (KAZ).
As Wolves mentioned, they were: “one of 37 ‘seeded’ teams in Wednesday afternoon’s draw which took place at UEFA’s headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland.
“Ahead of the draw, all 74 teams which will take part in the second qualifying round were divided into five groups of ten teams and two groups of 12 teams, with the ‘seeded’ teams to face one of the ‘unseeded’ sides.
“Wolves were assigned a place in Group Seven, where they were drawn out to play the winner of the first qualifying round two-legged tie between the Crusaders and B36 Tórshavn.”
Express & Star writer Tim Spirs has said to his followers: “Wolves aren’t on telly on the opening day (rest of August/September TV games will be announced in coming weeks) but their first four matches will all move to Sundays if they progress in the Europa qualifiers.”
