Winners of first Non League Super Cup confirmed after thrilling contest

The winners of the first Non League Super Cup has been confirmed after what played out to be a thrilling contest on Saturday.

The first ever Non League Super Cup was formed earlier this year following discussions which took a few weeks after the 2020/21 Non League Finals Day.

An idea came to have winners from the FA Trophy take on winners of the FA Vase winners in the curtain-raiser for the new season on the 7th of August.

The Isthmian League released a statement on the proposals with fans in attendance, and we at Fan Banter really hope this could be an annual event.

The Isthmian League said FA Trophy winners, Hornchurch, would host the FA Vase winners, Warrington Rylands with the match played at Bridge Avenue, home of the Urchins, and the Isthmian Charity Shield would be held in the air by the victors.

“At Wembley with representatives of both clubs, the idea of a match between the two winners was suggested. I went away to speak to our sponsors, Pitching In – who of course sponsor not only our league but the Northern Premier and Southern Leagues too- and they were immediately on board, offering to sponsor our ‘Non League Super Cup!”

Warrington Rylands will also be a member of the Trident Leagues when the new season kicks off, as a few days before their Wembley triumph they were confirmed as being promoted to Step Four. So the match will be an all-Pitching In affair, and all proceeds will go to the Trident Community Foundation, which has already provided fifty thousand pounds to clubs from each of our Leagues- one hundred and fifty thousand pounds in total- over the 2020-21 season.

6: Long ball over the top finds Dickson but excellent defending. Corner finds Nash whose shot is saved by the feet of McCall. 0-0.

8: Milne breaks clear on the right but his cross just evades Drummond. Chance for the visitors. 0-0.

14: Nash effort clears the bar. Sutton then shoots but deflected for a corner which Hayles heads wide. 0-0.

16: Coveney corner almost finds Smith. Ball swung back into the Urchins box but Coveney heads over. 0-0.

25: Nash (GOAL HORNCHURCH)

25: Shout for a Rylands penalty but the ref waves play on. Ball cleared to Nash who sprints away from the defence and lobs the keeper with a sublime finish. 1-0.

29: Ruff fouled 25 yards out. Nash’s strike well saved by McCall. 1-0.

35: Ruff collects the ball 20 yards and shoots but McCall gets down well to save. 1-0.

45: 1 minute added time. 1-0.

45: Free-kick Hornchurch 20 yards out, centre of the goal. 1-0.

45: Ruff plays it short to Dickson whose shot is superbly saved by McCall. 1-0.

57: Christou pasde wide to Sutton who surges forward and shoots but just over. 1-0.

61: Jack Tinning lays it off to Ste Milne and the striker’s effort hits the under side of the ball. 1-1.

63: Rylands subs, Hassall and Dolan replace Lees and Sheen. 1-1.

68: Drummond tries his luck from 20 yards but straight to Thackway. Hornchurch win a corner, back to Clark whose effort is straight at McCall. 1-1.

72: A Hornchurch corner is cleared. Rylands counter, and it takes an excellent clearance by Christou to avert the danger. Thackway then dives full length to push away a Rylands effort. 1-1.

76: Trickery by Brown gives Nash a chance but straight to the keeper. 1-1.

77: Milne booked for a foul on Hayles. Higgins shoots but the keeper saves again. 1-1.

79: Another chance. This time Higgins drags his shot wide. 1-1.
