Which English club has the biggest fanbase online? Teams has been ranked by their social media following, which makes for interesting results.
Data has been collected by The Athletic back in early September, and the top 20 list doesn’t just include teams from the current Premier League season.
@AdamCrafton_ stated on his Twitter account: “This is great evidence of impact of globally televised Premier League. Extraordinary Leeds aren’t in top 20, but they’ve just not been around when the Premier League and social media truly boomed. Interesting to see rate of change now they’re back.”
Football fans love a gossip, but now that has gone from meeting up with your mates or at the pub to doing it from the comfort of your own home, on your android device with the rise of social media in the last 15 years or so.
Because of this, football clubs from the Premier League down to Sunday League, have seen it as a perfect opportunity to get themselves on there, so fans can follow everything the club is upto.
Controversial moments, player/manager interviews, in-game updates/commentary, skills videos are just some of what people love to engage with.
Some club’s social media admins can lack imagination (naming no names), others otherwise can take advantage of it and their club’s size, and before you know it, one viral moment sees their number of followers rocket.
