Where next for Callum O’Hare as he says goodbye to Coventry City?

Where next for Callum O’Hare as he says goodbye to Coventry City? Now he’s left, it’s fair to say there will be no shortage of offers for him.

The 26 year old midfielder waves goodbye after his contract ended at the Championship club, having played 182 games for the Sky Blues, since his first joined on a loan deal back in August 2019.

He netted 22 goals for the club, and was part of the squad that reached the FA Cup semi-finals last season, going on to lose on 4-2 penalties to Manchester United at Wembley.

He also netted 10 goals during 2023-24 as the club finished 9th in the Championship, with just 9 points behind the playoff places.

Back in January, reports claimed that the likes of Burnley, Southampton, and Leicester City were interested and made bids for O’Hare.

Coventry said they intended to reject all bids for him, even if a new contract isn’t agreed.

He remained at the club, who did offer O’Hare a second contract offer after the initial one was rejected, but have quickly found a replacement for him in Huddersfield’s Jack Rudoni for an undisclosed fee, with Leeds reportedly tipped to bring him in as a replacement for Crysencio Summerville.

Although other clubs such as Burnley, Celtic, Southampton and Fulham have been linked with him, as per The Deck.

The Sky Blues said in a statement on Monday (1st July): “Coventry City can confirm that Callum O’Hare has left the Club following the expiry of his contract with us on 30th June 2024.

“Callum played 142 games for City and scored 18 goals, having joined initially on loan in August 2019 before making the move permanent in the Summer of 2020, and was part of the side that won the League One title in the 2019/20 campaign.

“A popular player with Sky Blues supporters, Callum also featured as the Club reached the FA Cup Semi-Final last season.

“Coventry City would like to thank Callum for his contribution to the Club that was unfortunately significantly disrupted due to injury over his last two seasons with us.”

@olliejustmoans: Clearly gone for more cash. Hope he does well in the future of course but let’s be honest 90% of what we’ve done the last 2 seasons was done without him, he’s replaceable

@PaddyBermingham: Gutted, always gave us an option and clearly loved the club, always had a slight bit of hope that he’d sign a 1 year contract 😔

@Army10Sky: High energy and average end product. Not what you need in a Number 10. Cheers, but I’m happier with Rudoni 🙌🏻 #pusb

@gmkonline: Wasn’t as big a O’Hare fan boy or girl as the next fan, but I appreciate the impact he had on the club and while he never reached the levels consistently it looked like he could his time will be fondly remembered. Will be interesting to see where he ends up.
