What Marcel Brands said in row with angry Everton fan straight after Liverpool defeat

In this article we take a look at what Marcel Brands said in a row with one angry Everton fan straight after the Liverpool defeat.

The club’s Director of Football was involved in a heated exchange with Toffees supporter after Wednesday evening’s Merseyside derby loss to their rivals.

Rafa Benitez’s side fell to yet another defeat at Goodison Park and booed off the pitch after watching a dismal 4-1 defeat – with some fans even leaving on the 20th minute mark.

Demarai Gray hit home with a first-half strike offered hope of an Everton comeback as the 25-year-old reduced the deficit to 2-1, however further goals from Mohamed Salah and Diogo Jota completed a comfortable win for Jurgen Klopp’s side to keep them hot on the heels of Chelsea and Man City.

While some fans left early, others chose to stay behind until the full time whistle were keen to make their thoughts clear, booing the players but also took aim at the board.

One fan, sat next to the Everton staff memebrs, was quick to question Brands and launched a verbal attack on the director of football.

“Get out of this club!” he shouted to the 59-year-old before adding about the players: “Did you recruit them?”

Instead of ignoring the unhappy fan, Brands stopped and appeared to ask: “Is it only the players?”

“It’s everyone,” fired back at the Evertonian before Brands turned his back and walked away.

Also witnessed during the game was the return of an Everton banner reading: ‘We demand Nil Satis Nisi Optimum, it’s about time our club did too.’

Everton head coach Rafa Benitez: “Everybody has to be disappointed because we have lost the derby,” he said. “But we lost because we made mistakes against a top side.

“We have seen how much money Liverpool have spent and how much successful they have been in recent years. It can happen if you don’t do things right, and we didn’t do things right.

“We gave them the chance to score, against any other team maybe it would not be so bad, but against as top side with top-class players, you suffer and pay for that.”

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp: “It was, for sure, the best performance we’ve showed since I’ve been a Liverpool at Goodison.

“We’ve had some good games here but not a good as tonight; never as clam as we were tonight, we were never as convincing as we were tonight. That is why we won the game, I’m really happy about that.

“I wanted us to be really mature, very aggressive in a football way, angry as well, but in a football way. You cannot win the ball back or counter-press without anger or a bit of greed, but there are also moments where you have to pass the ball around their formation. For that, you need a different mindset, and that is what we had tonight.”

Everton currently sit 14th in the Premier League table, picking up 15 points from 14 games played so far this campaign.

Twitter users gave their reaction to what Marcel Brands said in a row with one angry Everton fan straight after the Liverpool defeat…

@AlfiesSquad: He is defo referring to the fans rather than anyone else. You can tell from the way he says it

@DannoJ21: Bill deserves that response more than Brands. Bill needs chasing out

@DFan104: Embarrassing. The players tried 100% but the difference in quality was huge. Before Coleman’s mistake we were in it on effort alone.

@Everton77871432: Fair play to this fan. Brands been here 3 years and we are an absolute shambles while he picks up his big paycheck

@PhilMcBoobs:
Brands “Is it only the players?”
Would suggest not all is well on Good Ship “What Would the Everton Board Do” 🛳
@ToffeeTVEFC worth a dedicated discussion on its own is that response!!!

@LeonCummings1: Can’t believe someone hugged Kenwright after that game!

@raymond7156: Looks like brands has had enough aswell to be fair. Problems go deaper than him

@willy_edwards: one of the best videos i’ve ever seen ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

@RMutch: Why didn’t he keep that same energy with kenwright as he did with brands

@keeno_efc: Sack the board is the vaguest shout ever?!!! You think there’s a long list of billionaires waiting to take us over, continue to buy a new stadium whist spending millions of pounds in January?? It’s not happening like it or not.

@bradrvtaylor: The owner and the board are totally different things. Moshiri does not sit on the board. The owner owns the business and it’s his capital being used, whilst the directors are the ones who manage the assets – Very badly in our case

@Sheevspinn: Not nice seeing this but this is what it’s came to. If brands is not having full control in his job, he should keep his dignity and resign.

@SteGriff1967: About time. Brands had 3 1/2 years. His signings a shambles. He’s let Unsy continue to wreck the Academy. Kenwright has been at the helm for 20 odd years of mediocrity and what does Baxendale know about football, except what her partner in Crime Unsy whispers down her ear 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️
