West Ham United player Robert Snodgrass has hit back at Sky Sports after they claimed he swore at Anti-Doping chiefs ‘then tried to blame Andy Carroll because he also speaks with a northern accent’.
It was reported that he denied the improper conduct charge but was given a one game suspension and fined £30,000 for the incident back in February.
Sky wrote that Snodgrass asked: “Have you c**** got nothing better to do?” in an ‘aggressive tone’ and was “much louder than the jeers from the other players”.
The Football Association statement says: “A misconduct charge against Robert Snodgrass has been found proven by an Independent Regulatory Commission.
“It was alleged that his language and/or behaviour towards UK Anti-Doping officials, who were visiting West Ham United’s training ground on 06 February 2019, was abusive and/or insulting and/or improper.
“The player has been given a one-match suspension, which is not currently active whilst he considers his right of appeal, and fined £30,000.”
Despite the findings by the FA, Snodgrass had criticised Sky Sports’ story on their website and the version of events on that.
He posted on Twitter: “Sky your looking for a bite…… I ain’t giving you it! The way you wrote this is sloppy and isn’t the truth. The season must be finished and clutching for stories…. disappointing! Think I might cancel my sports channels now.”
