Everton boss David Moyes speaking to BBC Sport: “I don’t think we deserved to lose, that’s for sure. Very similar to last week, we played well enough at times and didn’t deserve to come away with nothing.”

On the decision not to award his side a penalty for an apparent handball: “I’m a bit surprised. I’ve been to see them [the officials] and VAR are saying it was grappling – well, the boy marking him was grappling. He punched the ball. It would have been harsh, but I’m amazed they haven’t given it.

“If any team was going to go and win it, it was probably us. We just didn’t do well enough at the end.”

West Ham goalscorer Callum Wilson speaking to BBC Sport: “Over the moon with the three points first and foremost, and I managed to pop up with the winning goal.

“The atmosphere was electric. I think the fans and the players have really come together in this period and it has stood us in good stead.”

On the relegation battle: “We’re the ones in the driving seat at the moment and if we take care of our own results it should stand us in good stead come the end of the season.

“When the goal went in it was a feeling of frustration, but when the eight minutes of added time went up I wanted to go and get that winning goal.

“The lads are buzzing. You do ultimately look at other results, we knew they [Tottenham] were playing a game in which they were the favourites, so we had to do our job.”

After ending a 15-game winless streak in the Premier League, Tottenham match-winner Joao Palhinha told BBC Sport: “Hopefully it changes something.

“This victory is much more than that for me, the fans, and the whole club, it’s not a normal season that we have been living until today. We all have responsibility in this season.”

On the relegation battle: “We have four finals [remaining]. We need to do our jobs. Hopefully this win can change things, give us a bit more motivation as well as it’s been a long time without victories.

“What we can control right now is doing our job until the end of the season and keeping the club where it belongs, which is the Premier League.

“We will give everything we have until the end of the season because it means a lot for us to keep [Tottenham] in the Premier League.”
