West Ham fans will proper love what Pompey supporters did at Millwall

West Ham fans will proper love what Pompey supporters did at Millwall during the Carabao Cup First Round fixture on Tuesday night.

Away days are back for many, and despite being on the end of a 2-1 defeat, it was Portsmouth fans who made it better with some hilarious chants.

Those from Hampshire made the trip traveled the 76.7 miles to watch their team in action at the New Den, packing out the Upper Tier of the North Stand behind the goal.

As usual from the Pompey faithful, they were in full voice, not only cheering on their team, but also sang something that would have wound the Millwall supporters in attendance.

They took inspiration from West Ham, and sang a loud rendition of the Hammers’ famous Bubbles song “I’m Forever Blowing Bubbles”… take a look at the video below.

Millwall managed a great first-half comeback to get past Portsmouth in what was an entertaining first round EFL Cup tie.

Reeco Hackett-Fairchild dribbled away from two defenders to put the League One visitors ahead, before Scott Malone’s side-footed effort levelled the scoreline.

George Saville then hit a volley, putting the Championship side into a lead that was rarely troubled in the second half.

“It was brilliant to play the first home game,” Millwall boss Gary Rowett said. “The fans came out in their numbers, which was good to see. That’s why we went quite strong with the team.

“We started with a bit of an edge – it was a good finish from their player early on. But I thought we dealt with that quite well, once we started to be patient and move the ball. I was pretty pleased with most of the first-half, we scored two good goals – a great finish from Scotty and an excellent finish from Sav, he really has to adjust his feet and find the corner.

“I was disappointed with the last 20 minutes, however, when we could’ve made it easier.”

Pompey’s Danny Cowley was left unhappy with the decision to send off Callum Johnson for an alleged dangerous tackle soon after the interval.

He said: “It was a valiant loss I suppose – but I’m not really into those. They never usually do too much for me.

“I am proud of our players, though, because we had a brilliant start, controlled that part of the game and looked a real threat offensively.

“It was certainly a better performance than on Saturday, with Shaun Williams looking more familiar with that midfield role.

“I thought he was great and it was brilliant when he came off and got the applause from both sets of supporters.

“But we lost our way a bit towards the middle of the first half and conceded two goals in quick succession.

“I thought we recovered from that and started well after the break. We were on the front foot and then the referee makes a bizarre decision.

“He’s a good official, but Gary Rowett next to me said: ‘Wow.’ You can argue it might be a foul, but it’s not a booking, let alone a sending off.

“Callum apologised to the group after the game, but he didn’t have to and we’ll look to get that rescinded.”

Cowley said: “There were loads of positives from young Reeco and with that performance, he looked like a Championship player. Now he has to back that up and do it regularly.

“He was really direct and a handful. He’s tactically a bright boy and when you’re coaching, you only have to tell him once.

“The way we play is probably against his natural behaviours and we’ve tried to add aggression to his game against the ball.

“Nothing makes me happier than when you give a young player that opportunity and he thrives with it.”

Whilst West Ham fans will proper love what Pompey supporters did at Millwall, others had something else to say on it, check out that reaction below…

@MrBillyG88: Thought Pompey fans were better than that

@FrattonFaithful: Hearing the “bubbles” song being sung by #Pompey fans at Millwall is “pour acid in my ears” level of utter cringe. Stop it!

@MillwallTT: Never thought I’d hear proper fans like Pompey singing “Bubbles”. #pompey #millwall

@DylanBRyder_: 🤢🤢🤢

Another funny moment came from two different stands, with one social media users laughing at the duo exchanging numbers just to have it out with each other at the game…
