West Ham fans show support to Bowen and Paqueta after 3-0 win at Nottingham Forest

West Ham fans show support to Jarrod Bowen and Lucas Paqueta after the Hammers came away with a 3-0 win at Nottingham Forest.

The Hammers scored all goals in the final six minutes through Jarrod Bowen, Lucas Paqueta and Callum Wilson, with the result easing pressure on boss Graham Potter.

Chris Wood wasted Forest’s best chance in a dismal lacklustre defeat for his side, Forest boss Nuno Espirito Santo said he was planning talks with owner Evangelos Marinakis amid frustrations over a lack of signings.

The celebrations, the huge win, what a difference a few days make after those scenes we saw at Wolves, with Bowen confronting some West Ham fans after defeat in the Carabao Cup Second Round.

The result sees West Ham out of the relegation zone and up to 16th while Forest are 10th.

West Ham captain Jarrod Bowen, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: “It’s nice and it’s what we wanted. The start of the season hasn’t been what we wanted. It’s down to us to change those fortunes. We can’t get too worked up about it because we have quality and resilience. It was 0-0 for so long and we stuck at it. We got three goals but it could have been a lot more.

“I thought we defended well and limited them in terms of chances. They’re a really good side, they’ve got Europe and were flying last season. They didn’t score and we scored three. We deserved our win.”

On exchange with fans versus Wolves: “When things aren’t going and you’re captain… I’m someone who cares about this club. I play with my heart and these things happen. I play with passion and loyalty. It’s never personal with fans, it’s all for the love of the club. Today to have that exchange with them in a positive manner before the international break. When those good times come, you enjoy them a lot.”

On Lucas Paqueta: “Don’t believe everything you read online. Some people didn’t think he’d turn up and play but he turned up and scored.

On the goal that wasn’t: “We laughed about it on the pitch. For the first two seconds I was fuming. Cal [Callum Wilson] wants to score, he’s a striker. It’s all football and we won 3-0.”

Nottingham Forest boss Nuno Espirito Santo, speaking to Sky Sports: “It was a shock. The first half was balanced. It required more speed. We were too slow. That was the idea for the second half but it came the other way around.

“There was no urgency. We were not able to create chances and there was a lack of mobility. We played how West Ham wanted us to play. We made mistakes that punished us. We will look internally so it doesn’t happen again.

“[Crysencio] Summerville’s speed caused problems. When we chased, we left spaces in behind. We all need to know each other better so we can help the team. It’s what we have and today was a bad day, but we bounce back.”

On conversations with Evangelos Marinakis: “We will have a conversation looking for the best. It’s a difficult day for me. We have to make sure it doesn’t happen again. I think it’s okay. It gives us a chance with the players who stay here to really work on them. Hopefully our players return healthy.”

On his future: “I don’t only think what I have to do but I must do everything in my power to to help the boys.”

Nuno, speaking to BBC MOTD: “We were in control and dominant and should have done some things better. The second half was bad.

“We got unbalanced and the urgency to chase the result and not be careful. Summerville created some problems. Since the beginning of the game, we didn’t show the urgency this game required. We should have done much more.

“There are a couple of moments where we had good situations in the box but not as much as required in a home game.

“We go home, we watch the game and try to make sure we don’t perform this way again.”

On the penalty: “It was played advantage because of a foul but we have to look at other things that happened in the game. We made a lot of mistakes that punish us.”

On talks with the owner: “We have to talk and address things. This result doesn’t help things but we have to address what the club needs. My job now is to help the team. We have a challenge and we must enjoy and play better football. It’s my job. It’s a sad day, we are upset but we have a second chance to make it right.”

West Ham boss Graham Potter, speaking to BBC MOTD: “I have been a manager for 15 years, relatively competent sometimes but it’s the players. It’s their day today. They’ve carried out the sea in a really good way. We restricted Forest and carried a threat ourselves.

On Bowen: “There is no doubt about Jarrod. we know how much he loves the club, how much he cares. He’s a fantastic captain. It’s great he gets the moment in front of the supporters who love him.

On Paqueta performance: “The noise has been around Lucas for a long time and the way he conducts himself is incredible. He gave everything for the team again today and contributed with a goal and the win.

On if Paqueta will remain at West Ham: “Yes.

“It’s what we’re here for – to win and prove we have the quality and prove we are a team. We can enjoy the next couple of days and prepare when the boys are back.”

Here’s how Twitter users reacted as West Ham fans show support to Bowen and Paqueta after the 3-0 win at Nottingham Forest…

@annaawhu: My mood as a West Ham fan after that one game has done a full 180, that game really was exactly what we needed to see 👏🏼

@BennyBoyTips: That’s what happens when you change the intensity and make the correct changes Potter. Proved all of us wrong today I can say that.

@forestmad80: Fair play Hammers. I thought we were utterly dreadful and went into the game with the wrong mentality and complacency but you totally deserved that. Fans were good fun as well, good luck for the season.

@BritInUSofA: Paqueta stays, Bowen scores, Wilson scores. Good day on the whole

@OtengFCB:

@rickwhufc: What in the hell have I just watched? Solid defensively gave us a really good platform, everyone looked like they were up for it, the formation change was perfect & got the best out of our defence & Bowen being back RW. Summerville changed the game. Well done all inc Potter 👍🏻

@hollseey: Much better performance – we really needed that. Great work! COYI – we go again ⚒️

@Hammer_On_X: Better in the 2nd half, much needed change in formation made all the difference. Huge result COYI’s.

@WestHamJoshV: Paqueta’s goal celebration – picking up the phone, throwing it away, kissing the badge. Superb. Tops off the win perfectly.

@WestHamJoshV: Crysencio Summerville being back is as good as a new signing. Cameo changed the game and played a part in all three goals. Massive to have him back from injury. His introduction won West Ham the game.

@UptonParkWHU: Dear Callum, I owe you an apology for underestimating you and not welcoming you with the enthusiasm and respect you deserved from day one. You’ve more than earned your place here, and I’m proud to see you wearing claret and blue. – Mo
