‘We are going up!” – Hyde shock fans by appointing ex-National League manager

‘We are going up!” is just one of the things said as Hyde United shock their fans by appointing an ex-National League manager.

That is indeed Jim Gannon who surprised fans in 2021 when his exit from Stockport County was confirmed, with Hatters fans saddened by it.

After a short time out, he was then named Manager of the Football Education programme at Oldham Athletic, joining in July 2021.

However it would now seem he has joined up with Northern Premier League Premier Division outfit Hyde United, who should expect a promising future under Gannon.

CLUB STATEMENT:

After a thorough application process, with over 40+ applicants for the role of First Team Manager, we are delighted to announce that we have appointed Jim Gannon which was decided by a unanimous decision by the board.

The new manager will be in charge for his first game this coming Saturday at Morpeth in the FA Cup.

We would like to welcome Jim to the club.

LEAGUE STATEMENT:

Hyde United have appointed Stockport County legend Jim Gannon as the club’s new manager.

Gannon, 52, had three spells at Edgeley Park gaining a number of promotions, including 2018/19 when County were promoted back to the National League.

He succeeds Dave McGurk, who resigned earlier this month.

Gannon told the club’s official YouTube channel: “’I’m really pleased to be on board and really appreciate the opportunity Hyde have given me to come on board, it’s a great community club and I’m really looking forward to working with the players.

“In the two games I’ve watched the players have been excellent with fantastic attacking intent and there is
a lot of good experienced players at this level and good young attacking players and I’m looking forward to help them enhance what they do.”

More than 25 applications were received for the role, and the former Port Vale and Motherwell man landed the job.

His first game in charge will be Saturday’s FA Cup trip to Morpeth Town.

Hyde have won two of their six league games so far, both wins coming since the departure of McGurk.

They lost 3-2 at Mickleover on Bank Holiday Monday with their performance said to have been looking rather shaky.

Fans reacted as Hyde United shock fans by appointing the ex-National League manager…

@iBreezeblock: I think that’s a decent appointment. Gannon’s club commitment can be in no doubt (he’s always out watching games) and he always keeps a small squad of players (so the Hyde sec will be happy).

@ryan7507: Absolutely fantastic appointment Col. He will leave no stone unturned to try & bring success to the club. He may or may not be successful but he will certainly bring an unbelievable amount of professionalism to give himself & the club every chance of achieving their goals.

@Adeb8888: Great signing!!

@spoldham: Not a huge surprise to see @james16gannon unveiled as new manager at Ewen Fields. Any club not considering him at this level (and let’s be honest, several above) need their heads checking. Big coup for @hydeunited this. Another JG project to follow. #NonLeague @thebettingcouk
