It was also heard how Forster also stalked the 30-year-old woman following a break-up by going back to her home and workplace “begging for them to get back together” on repeat.
He also got into Ms Dyet’s mobile phone while she was sleeping to check up on the messages she had been getting.
As per The Scottish Sun, Forster was subsequently arrested and charged when a concerned neighbour contacted the police after overhearing “a disturbance” between the couple at his home in Gorebridge, Midlothian, in December 2022.
Forster admitted engaging in a course of conduct that was abusive of his ex between May and December 2022 when he appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court last month.
He was back in the dock on the 20th of July 2023, to discover his fate with a sheriff saying his behaviour was “completely unacceptable” and issued him with a 10-year non-harassment order banning him from having any contact with Ms Dyet.
Sheriff Kenneth Campbell also told Forster that he would be will be placed under the supervision of the social work department for two years and said he must carry out 200 hours of unpaid work.
He now must attend sessions with the domestic abuse organisation, the Caledonian Mens Programme.
Defence agent Ms Malone explained to court that her client had turned to using alcohol after his football career ended but that he “accepts full responsibility” for his behaviour.
Fiscal depute Abbie McKerlie adds that Forster and Ms Dyet were in a relationship for around 12 months but split up in October last year due “the accused’s behaviour”.
Ms McKerlie said: “Dyet described the accused to be violent and controlling during the relationship.
“Dyet would go for nights out with friends and the accused would start arguments with her on her return. On an occasion he got so angry that he punched a wall and a door in his house.
“Dyet tried several times throughout the year to end the relationship however the accused would drive up and down her street and attend outside her place of work begging for them to get back together.
“This behaviour made Dyet feel uncomfortable and unsafe.”
The fiscal said Forster “restrained her and threw her onto a bed” with the duo out on holiday in Cyprus. She was heard “screaming at the accused to stop”.
Forster was caught looking through her phone after she fell asleep following a night out in town with her friends.
She was woken up by Forster “shouting and calling her derogatory names” during the incident which took place in October 2022.
She ended the relationship again the month after but felt “unsettled” after spotting him “driving past her home address and attending at her place of work”.
Ms McKerlie added: “His behaviour became so out of control that he hit his head off the hallway door causing damage to the door and also cuts to his forehead.”
Forster, who came through the Celtic youth system, also played for Hibernian in 2010 after he was advised by Celtic that he would be unlikely to earn a professional contract with them.
Hibs sent him out on loan to Berwick Rangers during the second half of the 2011–12 season, going on to sign a one-year deal in May 2012 and he was loaned to East Fife for the first part of the 2012–13 season.
Forster made his debut appearance for Hibernian in a 2–1 win against Hearts in May 2013 and also played in the 2013 Scottish Cup Final defeat by Celtic, replacing injured captain James McPake.
He signed a new one-year contract with the club in June 2013, and months later, Forster extended his stay until 2016.
On the 12th of January 2016, Forster moved on loan to then-League Two side Plymouth Argyle until the end of the season, but after 13 appearances, he signed a two-year contract with Hibernian in July 2016.
He helped them win the 2016–17 Scottish Championship and promotion to the Premiership.
In the hope of getting more appearances, Forster moved to then-League Two club Cheltenham Town in July 2017. He played 41 times and scored once.
In June 2019, Forster signed with Dundee on a two-year deal with an option of a further year and featured often early on in his first season, but frequent mistakes eventually cost him his place in the team for a while.
Upon his return to the first team and forming a back 3 partnership with Christophe Berra and Josh Meekings, he was made a key player in for Dundee, helping the side to 5 consecutive clean sheets, and got his first goal for them away to Queen of the South in February 2020.. only for the season to cut short du to the pandemic, putting a stop to the team’s momentum. Forster left the club in April 2021.
In May 2021, Forster signed with Scottish League Two side Kelty Hearts, scoring his first goal for the club in a league match against Stirling Albion, and would score an own goal in the same game. He helped Kelty become League Two champions.

Domestic abuse – how to get help
Controlling or Coercive Behaviour
The offence closes a gap in the law around patterns of controlling or coercive behaviour that occurs during a relationship between intimate partners, former partners who still live together or family members. This offence sends a clear message that this form of domestic abuse can constitute a serious offence particularly in light of the violation of trust it represents and will provide better protection to victims experiencing repeated or continuous abuse. It sets out the importance of recognising the harm caused by coercion or control, the cumulative impact on the victim and that a repeated pattern of abuse can be more injurious and harmful than a single incident of violence.
