Viewers in stitches after Marc Webber’s Christmas-themed goal update on BBC’s Final Score

Viewers were left in stitches after Marc Webber’s Christmas-themed goal update for Stevenage on BBC’s Final Score on Boxing Day.

The BBC reporter gave an update like never before, having just a few seconds to quickly summarise what had just happened before handing back to those in the studio.

So came up with a little ditty, Marc Webber seeing his chance and certainly grabbed it with both hands, leaving viewers unsure whether to cringe or applaud.

In roughly 10 seconds of his report, he lists all three scorers, how the goals went in and the scoreline to the tune of ‘Santa Claus Is Coming To Town’.

It seems the majority were rather impressed, as the clip quickly went viral overnight, getting millions of views in under 24 hours.

As can be heard in the video above, he says:
“He’s Elliott List
His goal made it thrice
Reid in two minutes then a Roberts delight
Stevenage lead Northampton 3-0” 🎶

The result leaves Stevenage sitting 6th in the League One standings, with 43 points from 24 games, two points from 2nd place Peterborough, while Barnsley who sit a place below them outside the playoff place are two points behind. Stevenage have played more games than those around them.

Northampton meanwhile find themselves 11th with 30 points from 11 games played.

Northampton manager Jon Brady interrupted Stevenage boss Steve Evans’ interview, to say: “Well done today Steve, you were superb today.”

Steve said prior to that, as per The Comet: “It was a really dominant performance from start to finish.

“We scored early, which always adds to that purpose and influence on the game, but pre-game we said to the players that we’d gone 13 games unbeaten, winning a lot of them, and we wanted a reaction after Barnsley.

“And we got one. Every player in every position played with a real purpose.

“We came out of Barnsley a little more hurt than normal when you lose a game.

“Every manager wants to close the curtains, turn the telly off and sit in a darkened room and those days don’t go away until your grandkids pop in and you have to put the lights on.

“But from a professional point of view, on the bus coming back and in the dressing room before we left there was an eeriness and a quiet because we knew we didn’t get what we’d deserved.

“But this group have been fantastic since the summer. They come in, they work so hard and they back each other up.

“You’re you only need to look at where Elliott goes and scores and I look next to me and both Kane Hemmings and Aaron Pressley are out celebrating and applauding.

“And that tells you we’ve got a group that’s prepared to go to war for you.

“And we shouldn’t forget. If we can get a positive result on Friday [against Cambridge] and we get to 2024 in the top group, that was unthinkable back in June.”

Brady said as per the club website: “I thought we were out ran and out fought today,.

“The first goal wasn’t good defending and the second was a freak goal.

“To concede early on in the manner we did was very disappointing and there is no doubt they deserved the win.

“The players are disappointed, you have off days but we do have to bounce back.

“Individually and collectively we weren’t good enough today but one thing about this group we will never give up.

“I feel for the fans today and the performance wasn’t to the standard we require but to have some perspective to be 11th in the table at this stage of the season is a great achievement.”
