VIDEO: Swindon fans throw toilet roll whilst trashing Newport city centre

Video footage has been uploaded on Saturday afternoon appearing to show Swindon Town fans throw toilet roll whilst trashing Newport city centre.

Many of the away supporters were enjoying their drinks and chanting down Upper Dock Street, however what has been described by Wales Online as ‘mayhem’ showed fans throwing paper, drinks containers and rubbish across much of the street outside the Windsor Castle pub.

Fans could heard chanting “we do what we want” and doing what most supporters do in mocking the look of the town, this occasion singing “Newport’s a shithole, I want to go home”.

Jewellery shop owner Annette Farmer captured it on video around 2pm on Saturday with the officers also filming it also.

She spoke of how there was a considerable amount of police men and women in the area that reassured her that the situation wouldn’t turn violent.

Annette said: “It was absolutely mad.

“They were going into a local shop buying toilet rolls and throwing it around.

“I think a few people will keep away from Newport now this afternoon.

“It’s the devastation that’s left behind.

“They have gone to the ground now and left the rubbish.”

It came prior to the much anticipated League Two clash, which saw the Robins defeated 2-0 at a muddy looking Rodney Parade, which hosted a rugby match the night before.

The Exiles got themselves ahead after just 60 seconds on the clock when Josh Sheehan managed to blast the ball home.

Jamille Matt doubled the scoreline when he swept home on the 49th minute, and Newport managed to hold on for a very important three points.

It means the Welsh side sit 11th, but with up to three games in hand on teams above them in the League Two table. Swindon remain in top spot on goal difference.

SOCIAL MEDIA REACTION:

Alan Newman: You lot haven’t seen when Millwall play away at Leeds.

Tasha Wayne Smith: Hmmm left for taxpayers to pay ? for the clean up . Wondering if the council will get around to it this weekend or will it be left for pride to pick up ???

Dave Smith: Fixed penalty for littering? They could of fined the lot of them

Carole Mcgill: Disgusting

Siân Lisa Parfitt: Pretty tame really as away days go… I’ve known of county fans on away days causing a lot more damage to pubs etc… than a bit of rubbish on the floor
