VIDEO: Rotherham player sent off for ‘kung-fu’ challenge on Hull youngster

Rotherham player Adam Thompson ended up getting sent off for his ‘kung-fu’ challenge on Hull youngster Keane Lewis-Potter during Saturday afternoon’s FA Cup tie.

It came after the League One side had just equalised against their Championship opponents when the right-back had a moment of madness on the 24th minute.

As can be seen in the video above, defender Thompson went in with his studs up in his attempts to win the ball off Tigers forward Lewis-Potter.

As the ball found the Hull’s player on the left flank, his heavy touch allowed Thompson the opportunity to win the ball.

Referee Anthony Backhouse gave him his marching order with just under three-quarters of the game still left. Lewis-Potter ended up playing for the rest of the game.

Despite being down to 10 men, Rotherham responded well with Kyle Vassell giving them a 2-1 lead at half-time.

However, as the game played on, Rotherham became more tired and Tom Eaves got his second of the game midway through the second half to level the scores.

In stoppage-time, the hosts conceded again to complete Hull’s win, Eaves scored his third to book his side’s place in the fourth round draw.

On Thompson’s tackle, Millers boss Paul Warne had no issue with ref’s decision to produce the red card but instead had issues with some other decisions.

Hull boss Grant McCann said: “Shocking tackle. I’m surprised at AT. I know him. It could have broken our player’s leg.”
