VIDEO + REACTION: Holland beat calamitous England to advance through to the Nations League Final

Holland have tonight confirmed their place in the Nations League Final after beating England 3-1.

Following a rather slow and uninspiring opening 30 minutes, the Three Lions got themselves ahead when Rashford scored from the spot after being fouled in box by Ajax’s De Ligt.

The Netherlands ended the half the better side, but De Ligt did miss a huge chance to score prior to the breakas he put a header wide instead of in the back of the net.

The second period saw the game start to open up, England had a penalty appeal turned away after Steven Bergwijn took down Ben Chilwell.

Shortly after, Jadon Sancho should have made it 2-0 as he was free inside the goalmouth but headed the ball straight at keeper Jasper Cillessen.

England were frustrating the Netherlands, but only up until the 73rd minute as De Ligt got an equaliser with a header from a corner to make amends for his earlier penalty giveaway.

Things got dramatic on the 83rd minute as Gareth Southgate’s side had the ball in the back of the net thanks to Jesse Lingard’s toe poke, only for VAR to ruled it out for offside.

Following the decision, Holland went straight down the other end and Dumfries it a right-wing cross, only for the Dutch to claim it hit the left out hand of Chilwell, though replays showed it in fact hit his back, no penalty was given by VAR.

Seven minutes were added on and England came very close to getting them what would have been the winner, as Raheem Sterling got around Wijnaldum before striking the bar.

An awful display from the English defenders saw them go on to concede a second goal to the Dutch.

On the 97th minute, Jordan Pickford made a cracking good save only for substitute Quincy Promes to be bundled under pressure from Kyle Walker, the latter player credited with an own goal.

Holland secured their victory in the 114th minute as Stones gives the ball to Barkley on the edge of the box and he is robbed by Depay who squares for Promise to tuck into the empty net.

England will now taken on Switzerland in a third place play-off match on the 9th of June at 2:00pm at the same stadium at tonight.

Following the final whistle, England fans and others took to voice their annoyance and frustration at the defeat as well as naming and shaming few players – find out what they had to say on the next page.
