VIDEO: Match abandoned after referee HEADBUTTS spectator

An amateur match in Scotland ended up getting abandoned after a referee HEADBUTTS a spectator on the touchline on Saturday.

Stanley Athletic were playing host to Port Glasgow United and it’s fair to say the ref had clearly had his fill of the noise from the side of the pitch in the 92nd minute.

Footage of the moment went viral over the weekend, getting over 700,000 views in less than 24 hours with the tweet’s likes rising over 11,000.

The game finished 6-2 to Stanley Athletic, with the winners summarising after the game: “We made it three wins in a row this morning as we were on our way to a big win over Port Glasgow, before the match was abandoned in the 92nd minute.

“We went ahead after 24 minutes as Richie Bain was brought down in the box. Michael English stepped up and sent the keeper the wrong way for his eighth goal of the season. With winning the penalty, Richie becomes the first player in Stanley history to hit 50 assists.

“It was two after 33 minutes as Conor Cook found Jonny Boyd in the box and he made no mistake in finishing beyond the keeper.

“Half Time 2-0

“We extended the lead early in the second half with a goal of the season contender from Conor Cook. Richie Bain kept the ball in on the left and laid it back for Cook who cut inside and bent it right in the top bin.

“Port pulled one back as we switched off from a free kick but the three goal advantage was restored on 70 minutes.

“A great tackle from Jake Crawford won the ball back before Bain sent Boyd in down the left. He outpaced everyone and went straight through on goal and slotted under the keeper.

“The hat-trick was complete on 78 minutes as he took a bouncing ball from Fraser Stevenson and lobbed it over the keeper. That made it nine for the season and returns the skipper to his rightful place at the top of the scoring charts.

“Port pulled another back with two to go but substitute Kieran McFadden got himself on the scoresheet as he converted a cross from Michael English.

“Sensational stuff from the boys today as we seemed to finally find the goals that our recent performances have been deserving. Managed to put the game to bed and even when Port got back into it, we managed to step it up a gear again and respond. Five wins out of six since the turn of the year.”
