VIDEO: Man City and Spurs fans in post match punch-up after VAR controversy

Footage has emerged over the weekend appearing to show Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur supporters having a punch up after the game.

The fixture finished 2-2 but a controversial VAR decision cancelled out Gabriel Jesus’ goal to put City 3-2 up in injury time.

The goal was ruled out because the ball had brushed Aymeric Laporte’s arm in the build-up, the VAR call came in, leading to the City players to surround and blast the referee.

Manchester City fans in the stands went from jubilation, to being left distraught at what they were witnessing. Jermaine Jenas pretty much summed up Tottenham fans’ reaction by tweeting “I just went from punching a hole in the sofa to a full knee slide in the hallway ??”.

As those in attendance made their way for the exits at the Etihad Stadium, tempers flared with fans of both clubs squaring up with each other before the police were forced to get involved to calm the situation down.

Much liked Tottenham fan and YouTuber Chris Cowlin wrote: “Disgusted with the @ManCity fans today outside the Etihad. They drew a game at home 2-2 with a VAR decision and this led a LOT of fans to hit, punch and spit on the Tottenham fans. Not enough police to deal with the situation.”

There seems to be no reports of the trouble or any arrests made at the game elsewhere, despite the highly talked about incident from fans on social media.

That wasn’t the only trouble at the game, as Spurs fan Laura Oakley revealed on Twitter that a Man City fan punched her in the face after Saturday’s game.

She also published a picture of the supporter that she alleges hit her, writing: “So this is the teenage prick who punched me in the face at the game today.

“Sorry your A-level results went badly but this week may get worse as you have been reported.”

Someone replied to her: “I’ve heard a lot of other similar stories from today’s game. My mates 8 year old daughter was spat at by grown men and then laughed at her. 8 YEARS OLD! Absolute scumbags. Hope you’re ok Laura”

Laura replied: “Got spat at too!”
