VIDEO: Furious Everton fan tries to get at Rafa Benitez by invading the pitch

A furious Everton fan tries to get at manager Rafa Benitez by invading the pitch in shocking scenes at Norwich City on Saturday afternoon.

The supporter legged it onto the field of play in the bid to reach the dugout and go face to face with the Toffees boss during their abysmal first half performance.

Everton are on a dismal run of form and began the day just eight points above the relegation zone, however following today’s results, their position looks much more worrying.

The Canaries stormed to a 2-0 lead and the rage for one fan from the away end showed as they got onto the pitch to try and approach Benitez.

Luckily, security weren’t slacking, running on to stop the fan and immediately took him away, take a look at the footage below…

Dean Smith’s side broke the deadlock on the 16th minute through a Michael Keane own goal, who turned Josh Sargent’s cross into his own net.

However just two minutes later, they doubled their advantage after Brandon Williams intercepted a loose Seamus Coleman pass. All too easy.

The on-loan Manchester United full-back made his way into the Everton half and played a lovely pass to Adam Idah, who pull the ball past Jordan Pickford.

Lucas Digne joined Aston Villa after an alleged falling out with Benitez, which is said to have angered fans.

Digne said on his departure that it ‘only takes one person from outside to destroy a beautiful love affair.’

A furious Benitez hit back in his press conference on Friday, stating: “I am the manager and I take the responsibilities of my decisions.

“It is to think of the team and the future of the club, and we have to move forward and think about that.

“If you’re in a boat and someone is not rowing with the strength that you are expecting then you have to make your decision.

“The realities are when you have a player that is thinking to leave and then you have an offer, a possibility. We brought in a couple of good young players, hungry players. I’m sure they will be good now and better in the future.”

After the game, Kris Boyd, watching and reporting on the game, said on Soccer Saturday: “Benitez looks defeated. There’s been a toxic atmosphere towards him all afternoon. They’ve backed the players, the Everton fans.

“But you’ve got to say Benitez is probably on borrowed time now…”

That win could be a huge one for Dean Smith’s Norwich. They’re up to 18th in the Premier League table, a point ahead of Newcastle (although they’ve played a game more).

They’re just one point from safety – although Watford have played two games fewer.

Is the survival dream on? They’re back in the mix now.

As for Everton, they’re now just six points above the drop zone, with a couple of games in hand on Norwich…

John Southall (BBC Radio 5 Live at Carrow Road): “Norwich have just hung on for a priceless win but this is damaging for Everton. You can see the Everton fans on the far side and you can see the ‘Benitez out’ banner as well.

“They were awful in the first half, better in the first half but it wasn’t enough. The pressure grows on Benitez – one win in the last 13 league games.”

Everton manager Rafael Benitez after the game:ย โ€œIt is really disappointing because we came here thinking about the win and it is a long journey for the fans who have come to support us. Everyone came here expecting us to win and we couldnโ€™t.

We conceded two goals through our own mistakes and that makes it a mountain to climb for us. We have to stay professional, concentrate on the next training session and match.

โ€œI am disappointed that we donโ€™t learn and we keep making the same mistakes. Richarlison could not play the full 90 as he was coming back from injury. He only had one training session before this game.

โ€œIt is really disappointing because they are working so hard, We are doing lots of things that are good for the future, bringing in new players, but we need to be winning on the pitch.โ€

Norwich manager Dean Smith:ย “I have not looked at the table for about two months! It is about where you finish at the end of the season. We will take each game as it comes and the next one against Watford is a big one.

“We have got four central midfielders out but the players who came in did excellently today. We have got some of our better players back โ€“ the likes of Grant Hanley, Tim Krul and Teemu Pukki – and that helps the younger players. It was unfortunate to see Tim go down at the end. It was a shoulder problem and we will assess it over the next 24 hours.”

Twitter users reacted as furious Everton fan tries to get at Rafa Benitez by invading the pitch…

@bester_peter: If they want to punish the Everton fan, make him stay and watch it

@kianbarton10: Going down going down going down

@SebEfc10: Get this lad a statue

@dhkopite: Everton fans pitch invading. Can you imagine the fume if they were Reds.

@dannyrimmerr: Two Everton fans attempting to get onto the pitch today, what a mess.

@robertmcmilla12: Rafa always said he would take them down.

@martin77sc: autograph hunters man ffs

@MattyArnoldEFC: The whole end needs to get on

@GGenaral5: Fans running on the pitch now protesting and singing getting sacked in the morning this is ugly do SOMETHING Everton you stupid fucks sack him.

@MarkyB1878: Got a better heat map than our Midfield.

@CPFCBarbarian: Presumably he breezed through the Everton defence too

@Jeffers1878: The players look petrified of the fans, good.

@chubberoo: Clutching at straws but do those players standing there agree with the fans about Rafa and gone to join them – never seen it this bad in my life time

@Gazala2: Players look broken. Get him gone tonight!!! Give it to Dunc, at least he cares about the Club.

@gibbo59921397: Michael Keane walking away not arsed. Should never play for the club again

@davemc45: Watching this I feel sorry for the travelling fans having to put up with the performance, I feel sorry for certain players having to put up with the abuse. But most of all the manager needs sacking, nowhere to be seen with players he needs to be sacked as this canโ€™t carry on.

@DanManning014: Not good watching that. The players will be partly to blame as well. If they don’t won’t to play for the manager they won’t, but they should play for the club.

@r8hugs: This is a joy to behold. ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿผ Agent Rafa

@BeckyBaty: The travelling fans have every right to sing this. The club doesnโ€™t deserve the fans.

@kevin_hurst: Surely Rafa canโ€™t survive this

@DavidECampbell:
Need to finally start listening @Everton
Enough is enough. 9/45 points. 1/13 wins
Have you forgotten our motto?? Or does it just not mean anything to you?

@DaveStanno: This is disgraceful tbf. Blame the manager by all means but the players should be supported whoever they are. If they’re not good enough to wear the shirt then it’s not their fault. They think that toxic atmosphere will make the players play better?
