Crawley boss John Yems calls police after Sky reporter questions allegations

Crawley Town boss John Yems calls the police after a Sky News reporter questions allegations surrounding him and the League Two club.

New footage has come to light, showing of Yems refusing to answer questions and instead opting to call the police before taking off.

He was asked about racial segregation allegations whilst currently being suspended for allegations he used discriminatory language towards his players.

Further developments have since seen Yems accused of separating individuals into different dressing rooms based on the colour of their skin.

When confronted on the new allegations by Sky News, he refused to answer. Instead, Yems opted to call the police.

The Crawley boss was placed under indefinite suspension last month after those at the top of the club received “serious and credible accusations” that he used discriminatory language towards playing staff.

The footballers themselves then raised issues over Yems’ conduct to the Professional Footballers’ Association before they were then passed onto the Football Association with the investigation continuing.

The FA’s disciplinary department are coming to terms over whether they should charge Yems in relation to a breach of rule E3, which prohibits discrimination against another individual’s ‘protected characteristics’ such as race or religion.

In a statement, the club said: “Crawley Town Football Club was made aware of serious and credible accusations that first team manager John Yems used discriminatory language and behaviour toward our players.

“We take these allegations seriously and, effective immediately, have suspended him indefinitely as we investigate and consider further punitive action. Let us be clear: Crawley Town Football Club stands behind our players, employees and supporters, and we will never tolerate racism or discrimination of any kind.”

These words include ‘suicide bomber’, ‘terrorist’ and ‘Zulu Warrior’, as well as running a segregated training ground where the club’s black footballer use a separate changing room.

ALLEGATIONS AGAINST YEMS (VIA SPORTSMAIL)

– Presiding over segregated changing facilities with two dressing rooms at the training ground which, although not official policy, was reinforced by comments to white players such as, ‘Don’t change in the black boys’ room’.

– Frequently referring to a number of the squad’s players from Asian backgrounds as ‘terrorists, suicide bombers and curry munchers’.

– Calling one youth-team player a ‘suicide bomber’ on a regular basis and telling him not to get the train home wearing a backpack because fellow passengers would think he intended to blow it up.

– Routinely using the n-word and referring to one black player as a ‘Zulu warrior’.

– Calling a young player of Cypriot extraction a ‘Greek bobble-head’ and mocking Greek music.

– Banishing two players with ethnic minority backgrounds from training with the first team without explanation.

– Causing such resentment in the squad that seven players complained to the PFA last month, with at least one seeking counselling as a result of the damage the manager did to his mental health.

@ACasualBantam: Just what the fuck

@harryadams320: I get that all this stuff has come out. But no need to go to his house and Harass him. It’s wrong he’s not gonna say anything

@radical_referee: He’s not being harassed a reporter is asking him a question. He’s within his rights to decline answering but the reporter is just doing his job.

@Adam_Palace: What’s he calling the police for? To hand himself in?

@BenjaminGrocott: He was just trying to play his favourite artist over Apple car play, you’ve taken him out of context there

@stevecurry1970: Disgusting to see this kind of thing going on 20 /30 years ago never mind in 2022

@Troyninio40: Ringing 999, really? That is not an emergency.

@Khai13__: Using a phone while driving? That’s a nick 👀

@slickeighties: Is he reporting himself for handling a mobile phone whilst driving?

@Dave190512: John Yems should locked up for a nice long time if it’s true what’s been said! Disgusting

@garybarnett75: Phoning the police whilst driving of ffs! “I’d like to report a racist who is driving whilst using a hand held mobile”

@MikeHull84: I for one am surprised by the news about John Yems, he’s always come across as such a lovely pleasant bloke in his interviews 🤦🏼‍♂️ 🛎🔚

@ralph_brooker: Staggered by the reaction of 3 #CrawleyTown fans on being asked by @SkyNews about the #racial #segregation scandal surrounding club & manager #JohnYems. Utter indifference! Though yet to proven, the allegations would shock me to anger. What is up with these people?

@matt_the_jack: Unusual for John to not give some saracstic response back to an interviewer asking questions.

@m1sac: I seriously do not understand how this has taken this long to get out and why did grown men allow this to happen to them white and non white. Surely on day 1 you would not accept this

@Picturecorner: Agreed. I’d expect all the players immediately to down tools and for it to be all over social media either from the players themselves or friends and family. If it’s true, anyone who knew and allowed it to continue also need investigating

@LeeCotton1: Crawley proving that being managed by Steve Evans isn’t the lowest you can stoop.
