VIDEO: Bolton fans and players taunt Morecambe after game is halted by incidents

Bolton fans and players took to taunt Morecambe and their supporters after the game was halted by a variety of incidents in the second half.

Trotters supporters invaded the pitch after seeing their side produce an equaliser to continue their recent good run of form which has seen them score 12 goals in their past five games.

Cole Stockton had broken the deadlock on the 73rd minute, and then alleged racist abuse was directed towards the Bolton bench, before Amadou Bakayoko got one back late on in added time, sparking crazy scenes and shushing the hosts.

Morecambe issued a statement minutes after the full time whistle, saying: “Morecambe Football Club are aware of a series of incidents and allegations that have been made during Saturday’s fixture against Bolton Wanderers in Sky Bet League One.

“The Club will work with all relevant authorities to investigate the above.

“Morecambe FC will be making no further comment at this time.”

5,617 were in attendance at the Mazuma Stadium and a new record was set, however it will be the trouble that this game had that will stay firm in people’s memories.

Morecambe goalkeeper Adam Smith handed the referee a lighter halfway into the second half, which appears to have been thrown from the away end.

The Wanderers boss Ian Evatt wasn’t happy in the technical area and was being spoken to by the officials, only for players to then be called off the pitch minutes later.

Evatt came out to plead for calm from the travelling support before going back to the changing rooms.

It’s reported that racist chants were sang to the Wanderers bench, which had prompted the referee calling the footballers to go down the tunnel.

A Bolton fan decided to invaded the pitch whilst no one was on, before getting caught by security and being taken off.

After the game resumed, a stadium announcer said play was stopped due to ‘behaviour of both sets of supporters’.

10 minutes were added on, then Bolton levelled, as Declan John’s cross from the left was eventually met by Bakayoko who finishes past Smith to see the away fans invade the pitch.

Bolton boss Ian Evatt’s immediate reaction: “I’m emotional really. From minute one, the barrage of abuse that me and the rest of my staff and players got from directly behind the dugout was astonishing.

“No protection, encroachment, spitting and then it takes the worst of all remarks, a racist remark for then for somebody to stand up and do something about it.

“I’m emotional. This game sometimes never fails to disappoint me and I’m even more astonished that the announcement comes over the tannoy to say both sets of the supporters weren’t behaving themselves.

“It wasn’t our supporters. Our supporters, yes, encroached the pitch to support our team and I’m not saying that’s right – but our supporters didn’t behave in that way, so I was really disappointed with that as well.”

More from Evatt: “I feel for Stephen (Robinson) because his team has fought and it’s not in any way, shape or form a mark against him. He was outstanding on the touchline and completely understanding.

“When we went into the changing rooms with the break, we spoke and we said that this can’t overspill and we can’t lose our own discipline.

“As upset, disappointed and emotional we are, we have to channel that into 10 minutes of football and give it everything we’ve got and the players did that incredibly well.

“I’m a bit emotional because they’ve really come together and they’ve managed to get something out of this game, but the way they stuck together, if one of us gets abused, we all abused and we all stuck together, we all did the right thing and until this gets stamped out of the game, it never fails really to disappoint me.”

Twitter users reacted after a statement is released while Bolton fans and players taunt Morecambe after the game is marred by incidents…

@Callumbwfc_: Racist bastards

@AdamHasb: Disgraceful penalty decision, disgraceful red card, disgraceful handful of missile throwing Bolton fans ruining our club reputation and disgraceful alleged racial abuse from some Morecambe fans. #BWFC

@MrRight1874: YOU RACIST BASTARDS YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE

@DanVoiels: You racist bastards, you know what you are.

@kyl3morrisey: Bolton equalising in the time that was added on because of racist abuse from Morecambe fans. Poetic justice.

@CallumLThompson: Morecambe vs Bolton – A shocking advert for football. Both sets of fans showing why most of Europe hate us in a footballing sense. @Jamestrafford6 – behaviour like that is irresponsible You lost the battle there mate. Goading an already irate crowd. Not a good look all round.

@bear_mystic: Bolton at Morecambe. Honestly a disgrace from both sets of fans. Our lot throwing stuff and going on the pitch. Their lot reportedly racially abusing our players and nearly getting the game called off. Refereeing at this level cannot continue like this. Did well to get 1-1.

@GiftedDuck: Classy announcement at Morecambe FC, @ShrimpsOfficial: “Play was suspended because of the behaviour of both sets of supporters.” Ah, so it wasn’t just Morecambe fans who were racially abusing a Bolton substitute? Right you are. A club that won’t condemn #racism is racist. #bwfc

@colingarner1: We may give each other banter and criticism but i stand in solidarity with Bolton today, Racism isn’t welcome in football. Morecambe fans should be ashamed! #showracismtheredcard

@robf193: If Dapo has been racially abused by Morecambe fans/staff then forget the rest of the game, these commentators at @BeyondRadio blaming Bolton for gamesmanship need to get sacked off too!! #bwfc

@BurndenWay:
1) Morecambe are grim. Properly grim.
2) Bolton fans are twats but there is a major, major difference between grim and twats. Twats can be funny.
3) that fight in the open-air stand was hilarious.
4) the whites are going up. #BWFC

@MiddyMiddlehurs: Cant believe what I’ve just seen at Morecambe v Bolton!! Morecambe fan behind the Bolton bench giving a a Bolton player the monkey gesture!!

@C_Cunns: These 2 dickheads commentating on the Bolton V Morecambe game are a pair of absolute Cockwombles. Clueless absolutely clueless #BWFC #MORECAMBE #dickheads

@BrettBrookes: Players off pitch at the Morecambe v Bolton game cos fans shouting racist abuse at Bolton subs. Christ have we gone back to the 70’s?? Get these idiots banned for life

@GazLW: @BeyondRadio I know you’re all backwards up there but do you often let university students accuse people being subjected to racist abuse of gamesmanship? Would it not have been better for them to keep their mouths shut rather than speculate live on air? #bwfc
