There were some shameful scenes at Aston Villa after a fan points a laser pen in the eyes of a Leeds player during a corner kick.
It came on the 11th minute, with viewers tuning in left disgusted with what they were seeing, the latest in a number of issues of recent with crowd trouble.
The incident will no doubt be investigated, and you do have to hope that the culprit has been caught and given a talking to.
Rather disappointingly, no clubs statement has been issue, there is no word from police, and even the commentators failed to mention it. Yet this is something we heard none stop when it occurred at an England game in last year’s Euros. We can all but wait for a response.
Meanwhile, back to the Premier League game… it didn’t take long for the first goal of the game to come. Against the run of play, a neat move between Rodrigo and Dan James, Mings wasn’t able to deal with the tricky winger who finishes neatly across Martinez and into the bottom left corner.
Sky Sports’ Oliver Yew: “What a moment for Leeds and Dan James.
“They were under pressure for much of the opening 10 minutes, but James brilliant low finish across Emi Martinez has silenced the home fans.”
Leeds nearly made it 2-0 shortly after, Harrison bursted from deep for Leeds on the left before finding James again who rattled the bar from the edge of the area.
A minute later, Villa got an equaliser, a brilliant finish from Coutinho who picked up a little bit of space on the edge of the area and he pulls the trigger after a pinpoint ball from Cash, not too dissimilar from Dan James’ goal at the other end.
Sky Sports’ Oliver Yew: “Coutinho brings Villa level with a fine finish of his own!
“It’s the first real bit of quality we’ve seen from the home side going forward, and they get their reward as the Brazilian’s strike picks out the bottom corner.
“It’s game on and with both sides going for this expect more goals!”
The crazy first half didn’t stop there, Coutinho picked up the ball on the right-hand side of the pitch on halfway and his precision slide-rule pass picked out Ramsey, who still had a bit to do, but showed great composure to put the home side ahead 2-1 on the 38th minute.
Sky Sports’ Oliver Yew: “It’s world class from Coutinho!
“The turn away from Ayling is sublime and the weight of the pass is perfect.
“Ramsey does the rest and Villa complete a quick turnaround.”
Ramsey made it 3-1 on the 43rd minute, Villa should’ve had a free-kick but the referee played a brilliant advantage. Coutinho brought it forward and he picked out Ramsey on the right steaming into the area – and the youngster blasted it into the top right corner. Unstoppable!
A crazy end to the first half saw Leeds get their second just minutes after Villa’s third. A brilliantly crafted move down the left with Klich backheeling to Rodrigo who sent a cross over – James was among the smallest on the pitch but the Welshman wanted it more than anyone and somehow nodded it in at the far post.
Leeds were back on level terms on the 63rd minute. Villa were unable to defend the corner properly again. Mings had the initial clearance but it only went as far as Llorente who lashed the ball home from about eight yards. 3-3 and barely played an hour!
💜 McGinn x Coutinho x Ramsey 💜
Tremendous vision to create the opportunity and the finish to match.
