‘Very good appointment’ – Fans pleased as Kidderminster bring back former manager

Kidderminster Harriers have brought back their former manager Mark Yates but only until the end of the season, for now anyway.

Yates was the boss of the National League North side back in 2009 – his first club of his managerial career – before he then had spells at Cheltenham Town (2009-2014), Crawley Town (2015-2016), Solihull Moors (2017-2018) and Macclesfield Town (2018).

He signed a three year deal at the Silkmen last year, however after a winless start to the 2018/19 season, he got the axe in October.

As a player he has won the Conference (now National League) as well at the Football League Trophy and a runner up in the FA Trophy, but as manager, he’s not won any trophies.

The best he has done was taking Cheltenham Town to the League Two playoff final in 2012, and again but not the final in 2013.

Yates said, as quoted by the Kidderminster Shuttle: “I am delighted to be able to come in and help.

“This is a proper football club and hopefully we can finish the season properly.

“We are where we are, and I can’t do anything about the past 28 games but now I have come into a club that’s two points outside the play-offs.

“Teams have a game in hand perhaps but we’ve got 14 games to try and get in amongst it.

“There are a lot of good players here and it is a club close to my heart.

“I want to come in and put my stamp on it for the remainder of the season and we’ll see what happens.”

When reading that Mark Yates was re-appointed as the manager of Kidderminster Harriers, majority of fans took to Twitter to express their delight at the news – find out what they had to say on the next page.
