An update has been given on Stoke player Robert Bozenik who broke down in tears and required oxygen after suffering a sickening injury.
After scored his first Championship goal, which turned out to be the winner in a 1-0 victory at Hull on New Year’s Day, early in the second half, he suffered a dislocated shoulder after a heavy fall.
His arm was put into a makeshift sling, and after a lengthy stoppage of 17 minutes added time after another extended delay followed later in the game when Lewie Coyle required treatment following a heavy challenge.
Manager Mark Robins confirmed Bozenik was taken to hospital for assessment, adding that it was “not great news.”
Bozenik wrote via social media: “Am happy and grateful to start a new year with three points and my first goal for Stoke City but also disappointed with my injury. It’s a new challenge for me and I will do my best to come back stronger. Thank you very much for all messages and positive energy.”
Bozenik breaking his little heart is so sad, he’s played so well.

He got pulled down and landed funny, hoping it’s a dislocated shoulder but we’ll see. Think he’s more emotional because he played so well, scored and his chance has been hindered

It was 17 minutes because Bozenik was down for nine while being treated (by Stoke’s medical staff), and then Coyle was treated for another five or so. There was also a host of changes which added up to that figure.

Mark Robins confirmed that Robert Bozenik is in hospital to have his assessed after dislocating his shoulder, and Viktor Johansson is expected to need surgery on a shoulder injury, having landed awkwardly in the game against Sheffield United on Monday.
Robins said, per Stoke Sentinel: “It’s not looking favourable (for Johansson). It looks like it’s probably going to need surgery so that’s going to be a while.
“He’s a top bloke as well as a top goalkeeper. That news really hit everybody for six. We’ve just got to deal with it the best we can and support him to come back as soon as possible. There is a variance, a quite marked difference between what the earliest and what the latest might be so we’re praying for the earlier, obviously.”

He added: “We’ve waited for Robert to score, he gets his goal and then his shoulder dislocates. That is not great news at all. He was in some discomfort, some distress when he came off past me. He’s in hospital so we’ll see what the outcome of that is.
“He looked like a proper striker today. He’s been working towards that and he looked like he was going to get a goal and he did. There were some good moves. On a difficult pitch we played some really good football. We were able to control it and had it just been a little bit calmer we would have controlled the game even more. It was a game that was there for us to win and thankfully we did. It wasn’t the way I expected or wanted it to be and we could have had a bit more quality and calmness in possession but I’m delighted.”
Robins said of Simkin and his close range save: “Tommy coming in showed a level of maturity and quality that we needed. It’s a good start for him and the start of his career with us. Hopefully he will build into a really, really good goalkeeper for us.
“The defenders were brilliant in front of him, really good. That’s what we were asking for, we’ve got to try to help each other. We did that. When he had the ball he showed a real level of maturity and game understanding. I was really pleased.
“We have to take into account the context and this is the third game in a spell when the intensity isn’t necessarily there. The games are normally faster than that, things happen quicker, the Sheffield United game was quicker, and they will be again once people have a chance to recover – which won’t be before Sunday (a trip to Norwich) but we’ve got to go again.”
Hull City manager Sergej Jakirovic told BBC Radio Humberside: “It’s a normal Championship game, especially at this moment where every game is coming too fast.
“You just have recovery and mental preparation. I think in these days, in this moment, whoever has more energy, more will, more desire, then you can expect something.
“I expected this type of game because, from what I saw, there were a lot of aerial challenges and long balls. I was not satisfied in the first half especially, because we didn’t play; we just kicked the ball forward, which was very easy to defend.
“I’m not disappointed at all because I know the lads gave everything on the pitch. In our circumstances, we are losing every game one or two players.”

@sabinashaw20: Absolutely heartbreaking watching this 😥
@joescfc92: Fully deserved. Doesn’t get much luck at all. Fingers crossed he’s back sooner rather than later
@jameswaz87: Felt so bad for him after being so happy for him to get his first goal! Finger crossed for a speedy recovery
@PottersTalk: He’s deserved that so much, could have kickstarted some form if it wasn’t for his injury straight after #scfc
@DeOxyHull: Hope he’s ok. It didn’t look good and he looked in distress. Best wishes to him and you deserved the win today
@s4m_scfc: Comments on this are horrible. Imagine you just scored your first goal for your team and showed passion when celebrating while also hoping that this kickstarts a goalscoring streak and then you get injured. Poor lad was clearly heartbroken that he wont be able to play for a bit.
@pigeonman562:
That’s awful
Played brilliantly too
👊 Boz
@Pownzzz98: Seeing him cry in pain was hard to watch but we won because of him and the lads brought home the 3pts. UTMP 🔴⚪️🔴⚪️
@Jamessproston: Works his ass off up top gutted for the lad 🟥◻️
@JonnyPotter87: Thoughts are with Robert Boženík. Typical Stoke luck. Never write off one of your own players! #SCFC #Stoke
@damian_lythgoe: I’ve gone full 180 on Bozenik. Looked out of his depth when he arrived but the last few games show the graft he’s put in since he got here. To get his goal and get injured like that is the most Stoke thing ever. Seeing him breaking his heart leaving the pitch was tough 😢
