Update given on Ipswich fans caught on video falling down steps celebrating at Southampton

An update has been given on the Ipswich Town fans caught on video falling down steps celebrating at Southampton on Tuesday night.

The Tractorboys uploaded footage of their travelling support jumping jubilantly in the away end, but eagle-eyed fans spot two males taking a tumble.

The 8 second long clip has gone on to get thousands of views, with much of the response hoping those involved are alright following the fall.

Dexter Allen uploaded the clip onto a group for Ipswich Town fans, writing: “what an away day 🤣🤣🤣🤣 legs are in bits. Keelan Wade and i are the mystery man flying down the stairs in case you couldn’t tell 😂”

When asked how they managed to fall, Dexter replied he missed a step, and added: “my legs are so so sore and bruised 😂 but we’re all good, shout out to the lads who lifted us back up.”

It came during the only goal of the game, thanks to Omari Hutchinson, who made it three defeats in a row for Russell Martin’s side in midweek.

The result means that Ipswich climb up to second place in the Championship, staying within a point of league leaders Preston, while Southampton fall to 11th in the table.

The high-flying Suffolk outfit had already seen a goal ruled out for a foul in the build-up, and then in the 30th minute, Hutchinson made the most of a defensive error from the Saints to put them ahead.

Conor Chaplin saw his effort hit the crossbar for the visitors just after, before Wes Burns put his chance just wide on the verge of half time.

Southampton manager Russell Martin told BBC Radio Solent post-match:

“We had the biggest chance of the game with Shea and were punished for a mistake, not much in it.

“They’ve come and got the goal and then defended really well. If Shea scores it’s a different game.

“The lads gave everything, they tried, it’s not for lack of that we just don’t deal with disappointment very well.

“As a group there’s still so much scar tissue from last season especially here, especially at St Mary’s and I just said to them unfortunately at the moment our season is being defined by how we respond to disappointments and in those moments they need to be braver than ever.

“The only way we’ll get through is by living moments like that and learning. We’re giving teams a goal start at the minute and it makes it so difficult.”

Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna said to BBC Radio Suffolk:

“I think they’ve given every drop again of what they have. Really proud of them, outstanding performance really.

“We were always going to have to show different sides of ourselves tonight. The start to the game was a little scrappy, both teams were adjusting to the conditions but we grew in belief.

“We started to play our football, we stayed brave in terms of our pressing, we got the reward with a goal and I thought from that point on we played some really good stuff.

“That situation where it’s 1-0, you’re up against a top team tonight bringing on top players so we’re going to have to dig in the last 20 minutes and show resilience, organisation, push ourselves to the limits and the players have done that again and the result is just rewards for everything they put into the game.”
