Two upsets caused in FA Trophy Third Round

The FA Trophy was back in action and this time it was the Third Round and once again we managed to see some upsets, as predicted by the likers of Non League Football’s Facebook page.

Half of the tournament’s schedule played yesterday, with the snow causing many postponements up and down the country.

The cold and snowy conditions was no issue for Brackley Town and Stockport County, who managed to produce wins against a team in the above division.

National League North side Brackley, who were up against John Sheridan’s Chesterfield, found themselves 1-0 up when a corner by Glenn Walker came in and Ndlovu whacked the ball into the roof of the net.

Jimmy Armson doubled the Saints’ lead when he was found on the edge of the box, took a touch and calmly found the bottom corner to comfortably seal the surprise result.

They weren’t the only one to spring a shock either.

As mentioned earlier in the article, Stockport – from Brackley’s league – although continued their stunning unbeaten run as they knocked out National League side Harrogate Town.

It was an eventful start for the Hatters, who were 1-0 down through a Jordan Keane own goal, but were only behind for four minutes as they turned the scoreline around with two goals in roughly 120 seconds – Adam Thomas and Frank Mulhern finding the net.

The drama continued in the second half, when Matty Warburton made it 3-1 to Stockport just after break, making it his 22nd goal of the season before Mulhern found his second, 4-1 now.

Harrogate’s George Thomson got a consolation goal during injury time before the whistle blew and the Hatters booked a place into the last eight.

Football fans took to and/or tagged both Brackley and Stockport’s social media accounts to praise them for the upsets, some suggested who would be drawn with who in the next round – check out what they are saying on the next page.
