Two teams confirm place in the FA Trophy Final following shock results

Two teams confirm place in the FA Trophy Final following shock results which has seen lower league teams beat higher level opponents.

Isthmian League Premier Division outfit Hornchurch took Notts County all the way to penalties, only to then beat them 5-4.

It was Ian Burchnall‘s first game in charge for the National League side, and it went terribly wrong as their opposition kept fighting back hard.

In the 10th minute, Notts County was one up, Miller works the ball out to Barnett who stands up a cross for Wootton to head home.

On the 38th minute, Spence’s speculative long-range effort takes a horrible deflection off Rawlinson and creeps past Slocombe putting Hornchurch on level terms.

With half time approaching, Ruben guides the ball home from six yards following a composed lay-off from Boldewijn. 2-1 Notts.

And again, Hornchurch came back at them, making it 2-2 when Clark supplies a low cross for Clark to slide in and score, right on the stroke of half time.

The goals didn’t stop there as on the 77th minute, Notts went back in front. O’Brien unleashes an effort in the area and Sam’s in the right place at the right time to turn it home.

Hornchurch did what they do best and levelled for a third time on the 90th minute and sent the tie into penalties, which they went on to win. Cue scenes.

Meanwhile down at the other semi final clash, Hereford came away with a 1-0 victory after knocking out National League side Woking at Edgar Street.

On the 28th minute, Joey Butlin heads in from six yards after a dangerous ball in off the left, to put the Bulls one up.

They could have got themselves a second when a shot deflects into the path of Owen-Evans. Shot on the volley from 12 yards is just wide of the target.

Hereford boss Josh Gowling: “I’m sure the lads will be on social media tonight feeling ecstatic and I’m just glad we can bring some positivity back to the football club,” said Gowling talking to Keith Hall.

“We’ll see what happens (with the amount of fans) but the fact they get to see us at Wembley is just a dream, we’re delighted.”

On if there would be any additions before the final?: “These lads have earnt the right to walk out at Wembley so I can’t see anything changing to be honest,

“I’m proud of each and every one of them. Through the things we’ve had to go though this season to keep focused, keep motivated, professional and put in performances like that.

“We will be back in training, train hard and again have a mini pre-season. I feel that we’re getting better and better every week.

“It’s about the squad and Ben Pollock came on and Yan (Klukowski) came on so it’s about the whole team.

“Ben just sured up the midfield area, got some good tackles in at the end and so it’s about the whole squad.

“I was surprisingly calm about it to be honest and felt that we were in control.

“The main thing is building the football club and that progression.

“We wanted to be better than we were last year and I think we’ve done that. It’s fantastic, hopefully we can have fans there and it will be great for them to go back to Wembley.

“Last time I was at Wembley was in the FA Vase so it was probably meant to be. This was the draw (Woking) that we wanted, we got it at home and got through. I’m just delighted.

The FA aims to have “limited spectators” at the 2020/21 FA Trophy & Vase Finals at Wembley on Saturday 22 May 2021.

Fans reacted as two teams confirm place in the FA Trophy Final following their shock results…

@JeremysFoodTour: This was far worse than any Ardley performance. Real questions asked of the owners of the timing of that sacking.

@roweypw: Nonsense, it was exactly the same as every Ardley performance in recent weeks. I presume @ianburchnall couldn’t make it sweeping changes after one training session. Hopefully two new midfielders in by Tuesday.

@HazardNCFC: Big changes needed in the summer, some right shit at this club, hopefully new manager can bring in some talent.

@tomhwilliams23; Manager or no manager those players are a disgrace. Let themselves down completely. Look at the players laughing during the shoot out – do they even care ? Cannot wait for the summer so Burchnall can bring his own players in

@Andrew_E_Walker: justice served… karma? GK coach’s unsporting behaviour? to lose to this cabal of lumps and lardarses (Ruddock-esque waistlines), and for loyal supporters to miss seeing their beloved club in the final is an insult. Paint by numbers vs emotion off to a poor start!

@AngryYoungMan96: This has to go down as one of the most humiliating results in our history. Serves us right for sacking our manager days before a cup semi final. Well done Hornchurch.

@emmaballltd: Well done to @HornchurchFC and your fans – raised the funds to get here- you deserve this!

@EverythingWFC: Fair play – you’ll win it as well. Your team could easily cut it in the National League and made us look a shambles. Enjoy the final

@guyc_01: @HerefordFC give Josh Gowling and Steve Burr whatever they want next season….contracts, players, strippers, cars you name it. GIVE THEM THE CONTACT & PLAYERS THEY WANT RIGHT NOW

@WillB_2003: Hope you win it, showed us up today and should’ve made it easier for yourselves

@Harper_HFC: This means so much after how shite of a year weve all had. Thank you Josh, Steve and all the players truely amazing performance

@NotInSeddon: Saw you you beat us @TheDabbers. Well done. Good luck in the final.

@Coopster76: Get in there…What a fantastic result and performance… That’s why I love Hereford FC … Wembley again on sons birthday…

@GlenH1292: Well deserved. You should have won by more. Good luck at Wembley.

@cmhufc: Amazing performance!!! The nerves at the end was something else

@MartinBriderKRE: I’m sorry but with Neil smith available surly this is an opportunity to get a manager of his calibre; love dowse but I feel we might just regret not getting someone in for out next stage of progress

@greaserpv: Haven’t been enthused about the trophy since the 3 wins in the 90s but for the first time the bug bit me today and I paid 11 to watch that Wish I hadn’t and just reverted to ignoring the trophy as it appears our team did Good stream fair commentary crap opposition good luck bulls

@jsfmurray2003: Absolute disgrace. No players involved should be here next season

@w17msb: Really really poor. Haven’t shown up for many big games this season. Never looked like scoring.

@alovelyhorse: Cowardly display. No game plan, no strategy, no quality on the pitch. Fair play to Hereford, they deserved it.

@harry_w_1995: Someone has to do something about this no one gave a flying fuck about that game no heat no desire fucking useless

@dtpowell3: That was utterly inept. Such a poor performance. No game plan. No desire. Outplayed and outfought by a team who haven’t played in weeks. Deservedly lost.

@FACupFactfile: Congratulations on reaching the #FATrophy today. An unbelievable result given how the match panned out. To comeback three times against a team two tiers above and hold your nerve to win on penalties is just outstanding.

@AdamMGR_: Well done guys good luck you were the better team

@jameshurley: Tears in my eyes !!! Unbelievable. Never I thought I’d see the day Urchins got to Wembley. Heroic .
