Two Derby players charged with drink-driving after crash

It has been reported today that two Derby County players have been charged with drink-driving following a crash last night.

Mason Bennett and Tom Lawrence were arrested at the scene in Allestree, Derbyshire and charged on Wednesday, police said.

A Derbyshire Police statement read: “Two men have been charged with drink driving after a collision involving a Range Rover Sport and a Mercedes GLC at the junction of Burley Hill and the A6 at Allestree, last night shortly before midnight (Tuesday, 24 September).

“Mason Bennett, 23, of Whaley Thorns near Mansfield and Tom Lawrence, 25, of Duffield were arrested at the scene and charged earlier today. They are due to appear at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates Court on Tuesday, 15 October at 9.30am.”

A Derby County Football Club spokesman said: “We are aware of an incident that took place on 24th September 2019.

“Because of ongoing legal proceedings, the club will not be making further comment at this time.”

    What a joke.
    A normal working person would be looking at a custodial sentence, and most probably the loss of their job, for drink driving and cowardly running away leaving somebody injured at the scene.
    Different rules for those with money.
    The justice system should hang it’s head in shame for this.
