Troy Deeney explains grabbing Director of Football by the throat, fall outs, mistakes and more

Troy Deeney explains grabbing Director of Football by the throat, fall outs, mistakes and more when speaking on Under The Cosh.

The former Watford captain revealed details about a confrontation with a director of football, Cristiano Giaretta, during his time at the Hornets.

According to reports, Deeney had a heated moment where he grabbed Giaretta by the throat in front of his teammates at the training ground.

This incident reportedly stemmed from Deeney’s frustration after being informed by then-manager Xisco Munoz that he wouldn’t be starting in an upcoming match.

Feeling disrespected, particularly when he perceived Giaretta laughing at him, Deeney’s reaction was one of rage, leading to an altercation.

Deeney described this as a moment where he went from being moderately upset to extremely angry, highlighting a significant emotional response to what he felt was a personal slight.

Deeney said while on Under The Cosh: ā€œI donā€™t know if he was laughing at me or in general.

ā€œI went from being mad at 30 per cent to 300. The old me said to myself ā€˜are you really going to let him laugh in your face?ā€™

ā€œI went straight back out and went to him, ā€™Is there a f*****g problem? Who the f**k are you laughing at?ā€™

ā€œā€˜Youā€™re going to get me paid up or tomorrow morning youā€™re going hanging out of your office by your f*****g tie.ā€™

ā€œHe nervously laughed and I thought again it was at me so I grabbed him by the neck and said, ā€˜Laugh at me again, I dare you. Iā€™ll f*****g put you in the groundā€™.

ā€œIā€™ve realised Iā€™ve grabbed him and picked him up off the floor. Iā€™ve got the whole team (watching) going, ā€˜Oh s**ā€™t whatā€™s happenedā€™.ā€

As seen in the video above, Troy Deeney was back for part two. Talking manager fall outs, unconventional contract negotiations, unreasonable requests, media perceptions and management mistakes.

And you can also have a watch of part one of a big chat with Under the Cosh below…

In it, Troy Deeney talks through his tough upbringing to breaking into professional football, time in prison, bodies in the boot, rabbit food diets, and eye-watering Vegas bills.

Fans have their reaction as Troy Deeney explains grabbing the Director of Football by the throat, fall outs, mistakes and more…

@Wrighty2902: I didn’t have a high opinion of Deeney before listening and he’s done nothing to change that opinion. No humility whatsoever – it’s ALL about him – very unusual for someone coming on your Podcast.

@iAlexRussell: The guy is insufferable

@JoshuaDaniels25: Genuinely think Troy would suck himself off if he could!!

@hashtagMullins: What a complete lack of self awareness. As if he genuinely believes Watford would have had to sign 4 players to replace him.

@SMcClay29: Wow, really didnā€™t think heā€™d be the sort of character youā€™d get on. Usually all your guests are real down to earth honest pro types.

@markcullen6: Shut the fuck up troy getting boring mate

@HBKEMEM: I hear it, you donā€™t get anywhere in football being a nice guy

@JordanWiemer: It does get increasingly hard to separate Troy the player, the club legend, from Troy on podcasts. A lot of this is probably true (obviously he didnā€™t actually lift Giaretta off the ground ha), but itā€™s playing to the audience. The forcing of the ā€˜hard manā€™ persona does get a little exhausting, and less convincing the more you talk about it. But heā€™s a human being after all. For what itā€™s worth, in less public situations, Iā€™ve always heard good things. Iā€™ve witnessed a couple things myself that have made me largely positive on Troy. I just wish we saw a bit more of that guy, less of the bravado.

@tomcobbing: Yeah youā€™re spot on, itā€™s so weird because whenever heā€™s on a Watford podcast he comes across really well, itā€™s just whenever heā€™s on these ā€˜biggerā€™ more mainstream podcasts he makes himself look like a twat every time without fail. Gets clicks and keeps him relevant so do get it

@mattwatf: The club almost certainly did treat him poorly at the end, as that unfortunately seems to be their modus operandi, but this just feels like Troy needing his semi-annual little bump of notoriety to push his media career.

@SmithyWFC85: He definitely uses the podcasts to say what he thinks – maybe without thinking it through first!

@wfcbubl: Its his only way of staying relevant after that poor spell at forest green. Hes doing it for engagement not necessarily because he believes what he says

@JHTW95: Itā€™s a shame. If he hasnā€™t already permanently tarnished his reputation with the club, heā€™s getting close. Yes, these shows are always deliberately divisive but it isnā€™t a good look either way. Would have concerns about him coming back to the club in an official manner now.

@djcoesy: Yeah agree, unfortunately he’s just doing it to get publicity but it is tarnishing his relationship with the fans. The I’d think about managing Luton was a step to far for me. No Watford legend should be saying that.

@markbrisbane8929: This fella did 10 years at the club was a great captain and leader gave 100 % love him or hate him he will always be a legend at the vic šŸ‘šŸ‘ŠšŸ

@dperson9212: Every single interview with Deeney is the same. I get the sense that he’s quite an insecure guy because he only ever bigs himself up at every opportunity. Every question turns into how either how great a guy, how good he was or how tough he is. Its a constant stream of alpha male, egomania. There’s no doubt he makes for a good interview, but there seems to be very little humility or modesty, which becomes tiring to listen to after a while.

@garyphillips006: The one thing i have come to the conclusion of with YouTube, the bigger you get the more morons you attract, that probably don’t sit and watch the whole thing, they just scroll through looking for negatives, Premier League player, he’s too big, non league, he’s not good enough. Keep doing what you are doing lads, fans of the channel love what you do, patreons do. Watched every video you have put out over the years, think there has been 2 or 3 I have found dull, and that’s usually down to the guest (cough Blackmore) Bring Troy Deeney in the room šŸ˜ƒ

@rugbyanalyst1: Really good stories and achieved a lot in his career, but a few Harry Redknapp style adjustments in there. For example, getting booked 30 seconds into his prem debut for smashing Stones isn’t true, it was in the 42nd minute for smashing Galloway (shocking tackle). Then he speaks about Quique resting him against Spurs and putting him on when they were 4-0 down, not true – 1-0 loss. The game Mazzarri dropped him, he played 20 minutes not 1 minute. I guess it’s a case of “don’t let the truth get in the way of a good story”.

@pejpm: You can tell that a lot of his stories are exaggerated bollocks, but he makes up for it by being quite entertaining

@thingsthatburnpetrol2822: ā€œYouā€™re getting it.ā€ – Troy Deeney 2024

@snoweysnow9663: As a Walsall we always wanted Troy to get the move and that 5 million would have been massive for us, as a club that always tries to make a profit it literally would have ment we could have brought the ground that we play at as we were paying 500k a season to play there, fortunately our new owners have brought it but back then it would have been sooo massive for us

@jasonlee7649: Ā£30 million for Troy Deeney is crazy

@capio78: Ignore the people who say they only want big names, I love the old stories and itā€™s a liner that football existed before the premier league
