Tranmere Rovers have chosen to sack their first team manager Mike Jackson following a poor run of results this season.
Jackson was summoned to Chairman Mark Palios after Rovers lost 1-0 at home to Morecambe at Prenton Park on Saturday afternoon.
He came in as a replacement for Micky Mellon, who ended up leaving the club for Dundee United of the Scottish Premiership last season, after relegation was confirmed.

CLUB STATEMENT:
Tranmere Rovers Football Club can confirm first team manager Mike Jackson has been today relieved of his first team duties with immediate effect.
Chairman Mark Palios said: “I appointed Mike because he was an excellent coach who had some forward-thinking ideas and had played a big part in the two promotions enjoyed under Micky Mellon’s tenure.
“I therefore felt he deserved the chance to make the step up this summer when Micky left the Club. Despite the fact that this is a season which has thrown up challenges that no manager has had to face before I have regrettably come to the conclusion that it is right for the Club to make a change of manager.
“This is a season which could still yet be shortened due to Covid so we do not have the luxury of time to turn things around.
“The Club will always be grateful to Mike for his contributions first as a player and then as assistant manager as well as his efforts as first team manager. He has always shown himself to be a great professional in whatever role he served the Club and we wish him well for the future.”
Fans gave their reaction after seeing that Tranmere Rovers sack their manager…
Well he did sign Sam smith, so the writing was on the wall. In all seriousness though was a brilliant assistant and I thank him for what he has done for the club.

Thank you, Mike. Honestly, as a player, assistant and manager you have always given everything. Sadly the last chapter didn’t work.

Would’ve loved for him to succeed but it just wasn’t to be let’s remember him for the good times he had with Micky rather than this. Onwards and upwards

Had to happen…
Today was the final straw.
Things have been getting worse with every passing game.
Wish him well, gutted it Never worked out. Always going to be a tough task replacing Micky. Also needs pointing out…

No hard feelings to Jackson. Definitely deserved a crack at it. Club servant who gave us good memories. Shame it didn’t work out. Right decision ultimately though.

This is a win!!!!!
I’m sorry it didn’t work out, thank you for what you did under Mellon but this wasn’t meant to be… All the best Jacko

Thanks for all he did as an assistant and I hope he knows the fans are grateful for that. But he wasn’t ready for that step up and hopefully we can appoint right now and start the move back up the league as we have the squad to do it

Great news. The correct move for the club to take. Good assistant manager and did well for us in that role but massively out of his depth as a manager. Hopefully a solid appointment coming.

Really sad it’s not worked out. Been a great servant to the club. Wish him all the best where ever he goes now. After Crawley game we should have seen a reaction today from the players. I think they have let him down.

Sad really as I’d have loved to see him do well. Unfortunately tactics and results weren’t good enough and the right decision has been made.
Good luck Jacko in the future ?— Steve Davis (@davis887) October 31, 2020
I’m gutted it didn’t work out for Jacko. Excellent servant for the club as a player and fab assistant to Micky during the double promotion. I wish he’d been appointed as an interim so he’d have kept his coaching job when the new man is brought in. But, this had to happen now.
