Tottenham’s Yves Bissouma sent off for producing most pathetic dive against Luton

Tottenham’s Yves Bissouma gets sent off for producing the most pathetic dive in Saturday’s Premier League clash against Luton.

It happened on the verge of half time, and Bissouma already on a booking having earlier in the half pulled down Ogbene. Bissouma was handed a second yellow for diving on the edge of the Luton box.

This came despite making a nice run past a couple of challenges but there was no question he tried to buy a free-kick as he went between two more Luton players, and quite rightly Ange looked less than impressed.

Sky Sports’ Ben Grounds at Kenilworth Road: “It’s as clear as day. A shocker from Bissouma. He’s been arguably the best holding midfielder in the Premier League this season.

“But here he threw himself to the ground, on a booking. Inexplicable.”

Clinton Morrison on Soccer Special: “Huge credit to the referee, he got it spot on.”

Mike Dean on Soccer Special: “Embarrassing from Bissouma. He tried to con the referee.”

Sky Sports’ Peter Smith: “Ange’s entertainers. Spurs lived up to that billing in that first half as they created chance after chance after chance… but the wasteful finishing has now become a major problem with Bissouma’s foolish red card.

“Spurs should be out of sight. Instead they’ve got real work to do to take three points from a fixture they were heavy favourites for.

“On the other side of the coin, Luton – having weathered the initial storm – will come out fighting for their first home win of the season…”

On 40 minutes, Tom Lockyer thought he had given Luton the lead, only for it to be chalked off.

The ball was swung and headed back in, with Elijah Adebayo looping a header against the far post before Tom Lockyer nodded in from a yard.

There looked to be a foul on Cristian Romero with Adebayo the culprit.

The goal was then ruled out, a foul being the decision.

Then it was followed up by more VAR with a check for handball against Chiedozie Ogbene in the Luton box.

The ball did hit his arm, but he could do little to avoid it. No penalty.

There was a huge change for Luton on 47 minutes. Ogbene sent the ball through the six-yard box but at the back post, Adebayo couldn’t get a clean connection and scuffed it behind.

Almost from an identical position to Richarlison’s miss three minutes into the first half.

Deadlock was broken on the 53rd minute, a corner taken short and there was some magical footwork from Maddison to go past Doughty before cutting the ball back, then Van de Ven was there to grab his first goal for the club.

And that was that. Spurs in truth should have been 3-0 up by 10 minutes.

But played 45 minutes with 10 men with the result sending them to the top of the Premier League table.

Here’s how fans reacted with Tottenham’s Yves Bissouma sent off for producing the most pathetic dive against Luton…

@cheddachallenge: Bissouma was on 4 yellows. Due to miss next Match. Now a red. 1 match ban and comes back with 4 yellows ready for another ban. No Bissouma will hinder Tottenham as a unit. He’s been that good 7 games prior to today.

@_4Jords: Bissouma lost his head. What a silly way to get sent off, expected better from a snr player like him

@fatherofmesgu: The fact that Bissouma thought that against Luton he needs to dive to win a freekick to try to score is worrying.

@ro29904175: Undoubtedly Bissouma is an idiot for doing that, but we would already be out of sight if Richarlison could hit a barn door. #THFC

@RyanEvans_1992: Bissouma diving whilst on a yellow 🤦🏼‍♂️ just say you didn’t want to play ball today lad

@miltspur: Bissouma you absolute fucking weapon…..

@wrappedupinboox: Sheer dominance undone by Richarlison’s squandered chances early and general wastefulness in the final third, and then Bissouma’s inexplicable brain glitch has turned Ange’s halftime plan upside down. We could still dominant the balance of play, but it’s perilous now.

@TheBlack_007: So immature from Bissouma absolute no need what so ever, a goal was always coming. Dumbness!

@COYSJordan94: Absolutely fucking fuming with Bissouma. Why on earth would you dive when already on a yellow card?

@jimbo_horner: No Spurs fan can defend Bissouma there. Two clear yellows! anyone who thinks the ref has had a mare is wrong. Good refereeing #COYS #THFC

@mr_lips: Wtf was Bissouma thinking 🤣🤣🤣

@hnthfc1810: Bissouma that’s pathetic

@SpursyStats: Tbf Bissouma has scored himself a three week holiday now 🤣

@DeanFaccini: Oh Bissouma 🤦‍♂️. What were you thinking?? You have been a dominating force for Spurs this season but that dive was f***ing insane. You silly, silly boy. #COYS #THFC #LUTTOT

@Trini2Spur: Why would Bissouma do such stupidity when we are dominating the game. Brilliant footballer but didn’t show any smarts there. Well this will be a character builder for sure. I’m interested to see how we set up for the second half. Really hoping we can nip this with the 10.

@PereiraDwayne: What a stupid thing from Bissouma to do. Especially after the controversial week we’ve been involved in (through no fault of our own), Biss tries to pull a fast one there, hurting the team. Hope Ange rips into him to never think of doing that rubbish again.
