It’s been an underwhelming spell at Chelsea for Werner, struggling to score goals since his £50m move from RB Leipzig last summer, finding the net just six times in the Premier League.

He again had a tough time at the weekend when he was played as the main man up front against Crystal Palace, but couldn’t get on the scoresheet even if his side won 3-0.

There after high hopes for the 25-year-old however following the arrival of Romelu Lukaku, who likes to play with a partner.

He said: “I think a lot is about communication. I’m a guy who is very open minded.

“I always ask my teammates questions. I ask what they want from me. The next couple of weeks is important for me to be open to the mindset.

“We have a certain type of playing style here. I don’t have to adapt too much as with the national team we play in the same system. I will adapt to find a way to help the team.”

Both Lukaku and Werner had their best seasons when partnered together up front with a striker that compliments their style.

The Belgian scored 30 times in all competitions last season while playing alongside Lautaro Martinez at Inter Milan, going on to win Serie A.

Werner scored 34 times the year before playing off Yussuf Poulson at RB Leipzig, earning that big-money move to Chelsea, but has flopped since.

@WeBreatheChels: Going to fly again this season 💙

@jakipatrykk: Seeing fans supporting Werner through a rough patch in his career really is wholesome. You love to see it.

@whubxn: Feel so bad for him

@tovers98: True fans block out the idiots. Well done everyone for making sure Timo got the message – we are all behind him 👊 Those at Stamford Bridge and on Twitter have rallied behind him today

@mufasaturk: Anyone that bashes this man can’t call themselves a Chelsea fan. Havertz CL winning goal wouldn’t have been possible if it wasn’t for Werner’s run drawing the CB out of position. Yes he has missed chances before but the threat of his pace has created twice the goals he has missed

@188six: Timo’s off the ball run is literally what won them the CL final. Sure he was frustrating at times but he literally won them the trophy. That forgives all sins.

@ChelseaFCBlogs_: You’re scoring the winner on Sunday, believe it! 💙💙💙

@Nicolascfc1: We love you timo dont listen to the haters!!
