Three upsets caused across the FA Trophy and FA Vase at the weekend

There were three upsets caused across this weekend’s FA Trophy Second Round and FA Vase Fourth Round action.

You could say the biggest shock came at Southern League Premier Division Central side Royston Town, who thumped National League North club Chester 3-0.

Two of those goals came from striker Matt Bateman and the other from midfielder Josh Castiglione sees them into the last 16.

Aveley from the Isthmian League North Division also managed to beat a team from a league above, this time it way away to AFC Hornchurch.

Shad Ngandu opened the scoring for Aveley with a penalty after just 10 minutes, the hosts’ Chris Dickson also got level from the spot on the stroke of half time. Harry Gibbs managed to take advantage of Hornhcurch going down to 1- men just after the break to make it 2-1, in what ended up being the winner.

Over in the FA Vase, there was just the one upset caused by a team from step 10, with majority of step 9 sides facing each other.

The was produced by Midland League Division One side Atherstone Town who managed to come away from Stockton Town with a 1-0 victory.
