Three managers ‘in the mix’ to become new Millwall manager as one turns down chance

Three managers are said to be ‘in the mix’ to become the new Millwall manager as one turns down the chance to talk with the club.

According to @RichCawleySLP, Mark Robins has declined the opportunity to discuss the head coach position with Millwall, opting for a break following his departure from Coventry City.

Meanwhile, Matt Bloomfield, Alex Neil, and Steven Schumacher are all currently being considered for the Millwall vacancy.

Favourites to become new Millwall manager:

BetVictor – 19th Dec
Alex Neil – 5/2
Steven Schumacher – 4/1
Stephen Bradley – 5/1
Gary O’Neil – 8/1
Matt Bloomfield – 8/1

For the time being, Millwall have confirmed David Livermore will take temporary charge of the first team while the club recruits a permanent successor to Neil Harris, who left after Saturday’s Championship defeat at Middlesbrough.

Harris made the decision to leave last Tuesday, with the 47-year-old taking charge of his final home game the following day.

The Lions now get set to face Blackburn Rovers on Saturday with Harris’ assistant Livermore in the dugout.

Here’s how fans reacted with three managers ‘in the mix’ to become new Millwall manager as one turns down the chance…

@TnsCov: Makes sense on the mark front guys been working 7 n half years straight in football probably deserves 6/8 months in his spainish villa at our expense 😂

@charlier123456: Matt Bloomfield will be Gareth Ainsworth all over again, Mr Wycombe after finishing his playing career with them but as soon as they step up they get found out. Brake the bank for Gary O’Neil

@foxyone01: Such a shame Robins has ruled us out, was the only one who genuinely stands out for me, although I would be impressed if Tony Mowbray could be convinced to take on the job. The rest are much of the same I am afraid, very underwhelming.

@JayMfcPartridge: I thought we was supposed to be progressing as a club? That list suggests otherwise 😂

@crisjon65: Joke. If it has to be any one of these I hope they bring with them carefully selected backroom staff. A total clear out is needed, no question about it

@PS_Richardson: Out of them… Alex Neil please. Need experience at this point and a bit of ‘bollox’ to manage players and supporters.

@Harry_sims95: If it’s out of those 3, surely it has to be Schumacher.

@DiggaLawrence25: Good shortlist that 😂🤦🏻‍♂️

@ildertonroader: Not disappointed tbh

@benjiesta: Jesus christ, what a drop-off 🤣

@LDotMFC: Clubs taking the fucking piss if we hire Neil or Bloomfield

@Matt_MFC_Dawson: A shame but you can’t blame him. In that job for 7 years, normal for a manager to want a break after such a long time in a role

@BL98MFC: Call me mad, but I was really hopeful Millwall had someone lined up from a European league. Fresh face, the same risk Brentford & Brighton took before promotion.

@JPMillwall2: Replies to this are hilarious. Who the hell do you think we are getting 😂 Everyone was underwhelmed with Rowett and he was class. Edwards was a disaster and Harris was a Hail Mary. A proven champ manager like Neil, with promotions under his belt, could be worse.

@Lee_1472: Would take Bloomfield out of them 3 if not Schumacher. I don’t think I can sit through Alex Neil

@Harry_sims95: Wasn’t that keen on robins anyway. He’s a manager not a head coach. Went tits up for him when he fell out with his assistant. So much more goes into results, behind the scenes that fans don’t see. It wouldn’t have been a good fit imo. Schumacher for me. #millwall

@MrZampa7: I’ve decided, my preference is Alex Neil. The most experienced championship manager of the lot and has had success getting Sunderland promoted (after their 4th attempt at trying) and also got Norwich promoted into the Prem. But will he be happy at just being “head coach” though..

@HPackham17: If that’s the final 3 (may not be) I think Schumacher would have to be my choice. Hopefully some others are being considered. Bloomfield would be a big risk and Neil doesn’t excite me at all

@Frank_16__: Majority of the fanbase got behind gallen at The Cost of losing our most successful manager in years and Now we getting linked and left with unproven managers in a time the club needed to settle and grow each season closer to the promise land. #Millwall 🤦‍♂️

@4thGenCOYL: I’d rather not have any of them 3 tbh.

@PaulDonovan_MFC: Despite initial thoughts I’d take Alex Neil from the final 3. The one I see as least likely to go wrong and won’t be tearing up the rule book to start again. 2nd choice Schumacher for me.
