Thomas Tuchel names England squad with new additions for Andorra and Serbia games

Thomas Tuchel names his latest England squad with new additions for upcoming games against Andorra and Serbia which take place next month.

Notable mentions include first senior call-ups for Tottenham’s Djed Spence and Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson, both ex-U21 players. There are recalls feature John Stones (post-injury), Marcus Rashford, and Adam Wharton.

The England squad will report to St George’s Park on Monday after the last round of this weekend’s games before the international break.

The Three Lions will take on Andorra at Villa Park on the 6th of September, before travelling to Belgrade to face Serbia on the 9th September in the World Cup qualifiers.

Tuchel’s side currently sit four points clear at the top of Group K after beating Albania, Latvia and Andorra in their opening three games.

ENGLAND SQUAD ANNOUNCEMENT:

Goalkeepers: Dean Henderson (Crystal Palace), Jordan Pickford (Everton), James Trafford (Manchester City)

Defenders: Dan Burn (Newcastle United), Marc Guéhi (Crystal Palace), Reece James (Chelsea), Ezri Konsa (Aston Villa), Myles Lewis-Skelly (Arsenal), Tino Livramento (Newcastle United), Djed Spence (Tottenham Hotspur), John Stones (Manchester City)

Midfielders: Elliot Anderson (Nottingham Forest), Morgan Gibbs-White (Nottingham Forest), Jordan Henderson (Brentford), Declan Rice (Arsenal), Morgan Rogers (Aston Villa), Adam Wharton (Crystal Palace)

Forwards: Jarrod Bowen (West Ham United), Eberechi Eze (Arsenal), Anthony Gordon (Newcastle United), Harry Kane (Bayern Munich), Noni Madueke (Arsenal), Marcus Rashford (Barcelona, loan from Manchester United) Ollie Watkins (Aston Villa)

England boss Thomas Tuchel on the decision to include Elliot Anderson for the first time in his squad: “Very physical. A lot of volume and very good clean passing. Tino Livramento is also with us based on these observations because they had a very good tournament [at U21 Euros].

“Anderson is also with us and pressed a lot in midfield. A regular player for Nottingham Forest and had a fantastic season. He is excited to come join us and hope he can make his mark.”

Sky Sports News presenter Rob Dorsett said: “Listen, we expected there to be some significant headlines in this squad because the feeling I get is that this is Thomas Tuchel stamping his authority and picking what he believes are the more serious names now as he builds up to next summer’s World Cup.

“Gone is the experimentation of the early stages and the big headline inclusion in his squad for the first of this season is Elliot Anderson, the Nottingham Forest midfielder, wins his first senior call-up after impressing heavily in the summer with the under-21s.

“I was told that Tuchel was thinking of calling him up for his June camp with the senior squad but wanted him to go with the 21s and get some much needed tournament experience which he got.

“Another big headline though is a first senior call-up under Thomas Tuchel for Adam Wharton, the Crystal Palace midfielder who we weren’t sure Tuchel fancied.

“He didn’t go to the Euros with the 21s in the summer but we know that Tuchel is desperate for defensive midfield options.

“Looks like it’s going to be interesting battle between Anderson and Wharton in this particular camp about who gets the nod there.

“Two left-back names stand out for me. Myles Lewis Skelly keeps his place in the squad despite the fact that he hasn’t started a Premier League game for Arsenal so far this season.

“And just down the road in North London, Jed Spence who’s played at left-back and impressed in both games does get a call-up as well. So that’s an interesting one.

“And Tino gets his first call up under Thomas Tuchel as well. He wasn’t in the June squad, but he’s played right back and left back for the under 21s in the summer. Impressive for him.

“And Marcus Rashford also keeps his place in the men’s senior squad, despite a bit of an indifferent start, you have to say, for him at Barcelona.

“Whereas, still in Spain, Trent Alexander-Arnold is one of the big ommisions from this squad. He misses out having had a difficult start to life I think in Madrid and LaLiga you have to say was dropped for Carvajal for Real at the weekend.”

Here’s how fans reacted on Twitter as Thomas Tuchel names England squad with new additions for the Andorra and Serbia games…

@ReeceAfc97: Nice to see some different faces. Hendo tho? Seriously

@ImJamieMartin: ELLIOT ANDERSON 🤩🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 One of England’s brightest prospects FINALLY getting the recognition he deserves. Let’s GO. #NFFC

@_stonyd: Loving the Villa trio and the new names – Spence, Livramento and Anderson – well deserved!

@jackbryan8: We’ve got two England internationals at our club and we’re in a European draw the same day. Anyone got a tissue #nffc

@TAIEpodcast: It’s clearly a squad selected to give opportunities to some players… however, that’s gotta be the weakest squad we have selected in years ? 🤷🏼‍♂️

@Camclarky: Mgw and Anderson in the england squad. What a time to be alive! Sp happy for Spence too #nffc

@CapitalR: Two Forest players in there. Love to see it 😍😍

@WolvesNumber37: Some nice midfield additions but Henderson being involved is criminal. Definitely missing a few of our better attackers though

@_alexcannon: MGW, Ando and Spence 😍 #nffc

@NorwichPure: Is it just me or does that just look rubbish

@joeflemons_: Djed Spence getting the nod is such a wholesome moment. Had to be patient at club level, forgotten by some, took his chance when it came now playing the best football of his career and gets a maiden call up at 25 👏🏻 fantastic story!

@BobbyManzi: It’s great to see Elliot Anderson and Tino Livramento included — the stars of Lee Carsley’s Under-21 European Championship-winning team. Kudos to Thomas Tuchel for acknowledging the pathway. It could be very useful come the World Cup!
