Thomas Frank says Havertz should’ve seen red for diving; Brentford and Arsenal fans goad each other

Thomas Frank says Kai Havertz should’ve seen red for diving while in the stands, Brentford and Arsenal fans took to goad each other.

Kai Havertz netted a late winner in Arsenal’s 2-1 home win over Brentford to move Gunners top of the Premier League on Saturday night.

Bees boss Thomas Frank however felt that Kai Havertz, who was already on a yellow card, should have been shown a second yellow and sent off for diving before scoring the winning goal.

“I actually think, and I would never normally do this, but I think Havertz shouldn’t be on the pitch when he scored the goal,” the Brentford manager told Sky Sports after the game.

“For me, it was a clear dive – the penalty shout. If you see that slowly back, it’s clear. Maybe, it’s difficult for Rob the ref but the linesman should have seen it, in my opinion, clearly.”

Havertz was at first booked in the first half for catching Brentford defender Kristoffer Ajer with a flailing arm.

The Brentford Twitter admin then claimed that Arsenal were “lucky to still have 11 [players on the pitch]”.

Player ratings (per Sky Sports)

Arsenal:Ā Ramsdale (6), White (8), Saliba (7), Gabriel (6), Kiwior (6), Rice (9), Jorginho (7), Odegaard (8), Saka (7), Trossard (7), Havertz (7).

Subs:Ā Jesus (6), Zinchenko (n/a), Nelson (n/a), Partey (n/a).

Brentford:Ā Flekken (6), Roerslev (6), Zanka (6), Ajer (6), Collins (6), Lewis-Potter (5), Norgaard (5), Onyeka (6), Janelt (6), Wissa (7), Toney (6).

Subs:Ā Jensen (6), Maupay (5) Yarmoliuk (5), Damsgaard (n/a) Ghoddos (n/a).

Player of the Match:Ā Declan Rice.

Sky Sports’ Jamie Redknapp: “It [the first challenge] is a yellow card. He’s got a history of doing that [catching players with his arm]. I remember him doing that a few times at Chelsea. He throws his elbow at people.

“The referee is not in a great position to see this [the second incident] so unless he actually gives the yellow card then VAR can’t intervene anyway, but he is lucky. There’s no contact at all and he is looking to gain an advantage there.

“He’s got to be sure. He’s got a really good position but if he’s not sure then he can’t give it.”

Sky Sports’ Karen Carney on the second incident:

“Havertz is looking for it and the contact is after that. Havertz has also got to be thinking he’s on a yellow, this is risky.

“He’s looking for it [the penalty] and he’s very lucky. At that speed and the pressure, it would have been difficult for them to spot that.”

Twitter user and Brentford fan @cammbfc filmed himself goading Arsenal fans, tweeting: “Arsenal fans are weird bunch” then added “Just been kicked out the ground for videoing someone. Embarrassing”

ArsenalĀ bossĀ Mikel ArtetaĀ onĀ Kai Havertz: “I’m so happy. If somebody told me after the first two or three months that the whole stadium would be singing his song with that passion, with that feeling, with that chemistry, I would have found it hard to believe.

“That’s what happens to good people. He’s an exceptional player. When he starts to score goals like this and everything starts to flow people feel more connected with him.

“They see his work-rate, they see his intelligence, they see how he plays for the team and how he’s contributing. It’s impossible not to love him.”

On Ramsdale’s recovery after his error:“I’m really happy especially because he did exactly what he is, which is a person with huge personality and courage, very determined.

“Errors are part of football. It’s how you react to it, especially for the ‘keepers which is probably the most difficult position. He did so in an amazing way. I’m not surprised because the whole team and the whole stadium was behind him.

“He has earned that respect and admiration. We really wanted to win for him.”

Brentford boss Thomas Frank: “Havertz is a clear, clear dive. I wish they would just admit it. I don’t know if he has because that happens all the time, every week someone is doing it. I know it happens.

“That should of course have been a second yellow and a red card. And then he wouldn’t be able to score the winner and hopefully maybe we would have gained a little bit more momentum, maybe to win the game.”

Arsenal’s Kai HavertzĀ to Sky Sports: “Massive, massive win for us. We were so desperate to get these three points. They were so important to us. You could see that, especially in the second half.

We came in at half-time and wanted to turn it around. We didn’t play at our best in the first half but to win it that way is sometimes even better.

“It always feel nice to have three points in the bag but, to be honest, we talked a lot about it in the dressing room and we just try to focus on ourselves because we cannot change what the other teams are doing.

“Now we go onto the next competition. We look forward to that and I hope it’s going to be another special night for us.”

This is how social media users reacted as Thomas Frank says Kai Havertz should’ve seen red for diving, while Brentford and Arsenal fans goad each other in the stands…

ON FRANK’S INTERVIEW REGARDING HAVERTZ:

@ToonRaider_NUFC: That is a fucking abysmal dive thatā€¦. No shame, #AFC moan about the ā€œMan City cheatsā€ yet are happy their own players are diving about trying to cheat themselvesā€¦. Woeful player

@squadling72: Heā€™s right. Once again @FA_PGMOL showing a clear bias towards the so called ā€œBig 6ā€ šŸ™„

@Kenzema: About time Thomas. Was never scared to point out horrendous officiating in the champ. Need to start doing it at this level far more often in the media because weā€™re getting shat on by the officials as a result. Today; West Ham & Liverpool pen waved away from last 5 games. Joke

@jake2004brown: Donā€™t think heā€™s in the position to talk about bad refereeing decisions when his team was time wasting the whole second half and we should have at least had one pen.

@AnfieldRd96: Spot on. Referees in this country are a joke.

@Ellisblfc: Actually wouldnā€™t mind him at us if we donā€™t get xabi heā€™s a good manager

@SugarRaySamuel: Not that they care but lost a lot of respect for Brentford today. Every clean tackle left them rolling around on the floor, constantly going down injured to waste time etc. Thought they were above all that but clearly desperate times call for desperate measures šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

@Rlanghornemedia: Heā€™s absolutely right, Itā€™s a clear dive. However, when itā€™s for him like it was with Toney moving the ball the other week itā€™s classed as clever? šŸ¤Ø Couldnā€™t have happened to a nicer team. #NFFC

@TimD2704: I assume there will be outrage for the next week and cries of conspiracy, just like there was for a ā€˜drop ballā€™ incident last week.

@poolbest11: He is correct. it seems it’s another ‘monumental error’ . Will Mike Dean be on tomorrow to tell us why this could happen ? Or will it be Dermot telling us it’s a difficult one and VAR can’t intervene.

@TyndallPaul: So, letā€™s be grown up about this. Do we all think that Havertz (expecting contact) goes to ground? Once he does, and the decision is no penalty (right or wrong) how is he not booked for simulation?

@UtdDyIan: He is right, officiating in this league is shocking

@northhertsnick No mention of the simulation from his own players trying to time waste from minute one. Got what they deserved.

@mattsantley: Pathetic. His players were falling over pretending to be injured and escaped so many cards for asking the ref to book players. Brentford have gone very low in my estimations. I hope they go down very soon.

ON FANS GOADING EACH OTHER:

@_MrDFinch: How can you get so rattled by Brentford ffs

@Jason1112345: Hahaha got what you deserved. Donā€™t give it if you canā€™t face the consequences. Go cry more

@LevelHeadedGoon: Itā€™s neeky both ways. This is standard close to any away end but filming it is soft. Enjoy the day ffs

@KC94x_: Wanna show the recording at 85th min?

@marcusbrooks0: Post the full time video

@dt_lfc90: Sneak attack at the end

@Jamie_Hudson_: Thought Brentford were a decent set of fans tbh until they conceded their goals and they went silent

@Ryanbfcf1: freak doing the kisses at me and then punches a kid and only giving it large to kids what a fucking freak

@Dale88J: Parenting 101

@CoachTonyGordon: As a gooner I find this embarrassing.

@TymonMartin: This is exactly why I dont go to the games anymore. When people take it to their hearts.šŸ˜ŖšŸ˜Ŗ
