It’s done, the Second Round of the EFL Trophy is now over and teams have tonight found out who they will face at the next stage after the EFL Trophy Third Round Draw.
The Third Round draw took place live on Sky Sports News and 16 clubs were split into Northern and Southern sections.
This is a competition which has attracted a huge amount of criticism for its inclusion of Premier League Under 21 teams, with only Leicester City and Manchester City remaining. Find out how the draw played out below…
THE EFL TROPHY THIRD ROUND DRAW:
- SALFORD CITY v PORT VALE
- SCUNTHOPRE UNITED v MAN CITY U21
- TRANMERE ROVERS v LEICESTER CITY U21
- FLEETWOOD TOWN v ACCRINGTON or BOLTON
- WALSALL v PORTSMOUTH
- BRISTOL ROVERS v STEVENAGE
- NEWPORT COUNTY v MK DONS
- EXETER CITY v IPSWICH TOWN
One of the stand out fixtures is Scunthorpe United’s pairing against Manchester City Under-21s. In the previous round, the Iron beat League One Blackpool 3-1 to progress.
First-half goals from Kevin van Veen and Abo Eisa gave United a platform they could build on before Joe Nuttall pulled one back, Eisa’s second of the game sealed the win.
Ipswich Town were handed a long trip to Exeter City, after finishing second in their group. Paul Lambert’s men winning a penalty shootout at Peterborough United following a 1-1 draw.
All fixtures will take place in the week commencing 6 January 2020.
