Tensions boil over between Sheffield United and Watford players as the Blades picked up their first home league win of the season.
The match was a dramatic one, beginning with Watford’s goalkeeper Daniel Bachmann inadvertently scored an own goal just two minutes into the game, Callum O’Hare’s cut-back being deflected off Bachmann, and rolled into the net.
However, Bachmann then redeemed himself by stopping a penalty taken by Kieffer Moore from going in on the 15th minute after Ollie Arblaster was brought down.
Watford’s best chance to level the scoreline came in the second half when Ryan Andrews struck the post.
The result also meant this was the hosts’ first home win since December 2023, with Daniel Bachmann’s second-minute own goal being the decider, also ending Watford’s perfect record.

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder said per Sky Sports: “I thought we showed a lot of qualities in our performance in possession. I believe we controlled the game against a really dangerous side.
“I think it’s a proper Sheffield United performance and had a feel to it, which I loved right away, through from the first minute against decent opposition.
“There’s always going to be a threat, there’s always going to be one mistake, one long ball, but I thought the correct result was the win for the home team today.
“Obviously we’ve missed a penalty and had other bits and pieces. I thought it was a really good Championship game and lively as well. Tackles going in, players that want to play for the football club and both teams wanting to win.”
Watford head coach Tom Cleverley: “If you summarise the result, I think it was a fair one. We have to acknowledge when that’s the case.
“First half we made a really poor start to the game again and we need to address that. We created some good situations without being as clinical as we have been in the last four or five games.
“Credit to them, they kept possession well and they sort of knocked us out of our rhythm. We need to be better at trying to be patient and really focusing on no technical mistakes to accumulate pressure and we just didn’t manage to do that second half.
“Unfortunately today we just couldn’t find that killer instinct. We’ve scored 15 goals in five games and I’m struggling to put my finger on why today it just wasn’t there.
“I thought players looked a little bit leggy second half and we went out with a little bit of a whimper.”

Fans reacted online as tensions boil over between Sheffield United and Watford players before and after the full time whistle…
@willrp_: Sheffield United are a disgrace
@UppaTownITFC: Shouldn’t that be a damn red for that tackle hamer did. Didn’t even look like he went for the ball. Disgrace ref
@NFFCWill22: Sheffield United are such an unlikeable club
@marcx666: How is that not a red?
@flippig123: Clear red, good to see refereeing in the lower division aint any better
@ConstableDaniel: Clear red. No intention to play the ball. Dreadful from the ref
@Ldealmeida_: O’hare running like he’s gonna do somet 🤣🤣
@PhilBirdBFC: Surely that’s a red card? Aggressive, dangerous with no attempt to play the ball 🤔
@Jxk_Vxll: Blaster & Peck leading the way in brawl. Things you love to see
@ben_liversidge: Gus here, taking out his frustration at not signing for Leeds on some poor, unsuspecting Watford player…😉🙃😂
@DemBlades1889: “Jebbo, Jebbo, what’s the score?” 🎶⚔️
@Simon18893: Great to see a bit of Passion been missing for far too long
@MichaelWren1991: Sheff Utd showing more bollocks in a 30 second clip than we have all season.
@Sufc_alex07: Dirty Watford got what they deserved, cheated all game, was poor going forward, did I mention cheating.
@OllieStubbins: Clearly a red card offence from Jebbison on the half way line when you see the replay full length of pitch
@mattwyeth118: How the fuck is that challenge not a red card
@chrisjenkins370: Like every Sunday league game this 😮💨🤣
@keelowfc: yeah it’s probably a red but that’s literally the least problematic part of the refs performance
@__sampatterson: This is the most Gustavo Hamer thing I have ever seen.
@RovrumTerrier: Flies in purposefully with his elbow up into his head no attempt for the ball, yellow card, yet Danny Ward gets straight red yesterday for a shit attempt at a header 🤣🤣😭😭 #htafc
@AliJHCameron: @EFL sort your referees out. Disgusting tackle
@MarkTreanor10: That’s a red all day 🫣
