Tempers flare on the touchline at the end of Wolves’ 1-0 win over West Brom in the Championship on Sunday afternoon.

West Brom had Max O’Leary to thank when keeping Wolverhampton Wanderers out with some incredible saves in the first half.

However Fer Lopez pounced on a mistake from Nat Phillips following a backpass gone wrong in the 50th minute, Wolves holding out with the win taking them up to 4th in the Championship table.

West Brom meanwhile are 5th, both sides on 14 points, Wolves have played 7 games, West Brom have played 8 going into the international break.

According to BBC Sport’s live blog, members of the Albion backroom staff confronted Cesar Peixoto, perhaps incensed by the fact Toti Gomes was allowed to stay on the pitch to defend a late corner after appearing to suffer a head injury.”

The Sky Sports commentator watching on said “is that to do with the incident where right at the end Toti walked back onto the pitch after initially he was told to leave the pitch because the medical staff initially came onto the pitch.”

Kieran Trippier said: “It was amazing, you know, the build up to the game, you know, John Ruddy, for example, you know, spoke before the game how important it is. And I played in many derbies in my career, but uh this is certainly up there for sure.

On the firs half: “Oh, of course in any derby, especially when you’re playing at home, it’s about being on the front foot, being aggressive.

“Fair play to the keeper, they made some really good saves and was disappointed to come in at half time, 0-0, but it’s about, you know, keeping your head, keeping 11 men on the pitch and, you know, that’s why Fer is the top player and you need some magic at times and that’s why he scored.”

Fer Lopez said: “Very special. I knew the the importance of this game, what T says, all the buildup to the game, all the fans and everything. So we knew from the beginning we had to go on the front foot. I think we did that very well.

“Like Trip said, we were a bit disappointed to go nil nil because we had a lot of chances, me included. But we knew that if we kept with our press and building chances, we were going to score. So very happy, very happy to play with him.”

Interviewer: “After it was such a great first half and you had those chances, were you concerned that it might not come?”

Fer: “No. No, I wasn’t. I don’t know the fans, but I wasn’t because I know that if we if we kept like that, we were going to win the game because first half the only time they went more than the halfway line was when we made fouls and they were crosses. So, I think we were very superior and I think the results showed us.”

Interviewer: “And Kieran, to get this victory going into the international break, it really sets you up. You can be satisfied with what you’ve done so far.”

Trippier: “Yeah, before any international break, it’s always important to get the win because it’s a long run. It’s 3 weeks and especially a derby, you don’t want to be going into international break with a defeat. But, you know, fair credit to the lads. We we stuck stuck together, clean sheet and three massive points to build on for the international break.”
